Oracle of the Void

Card fields: Legend of the Five Rings

Open in Oracle of the Void

What each field of a Legend of the Five Rings card holds. Use these names in the All box, for example clan:crab. Each game has its own fields.

Card fields

One value (or list) for the whole card.

alttitle
Another name the card is known by (the Soul's full name, an earlier title), for search; not shown on the card page.
banned
The formats or tournaments the card was banned from, as notes.
chi
Chi (C): a Personality's personal strength, or a bonus ("+1").
clan
The clan(s) the card belongs to (Crab, Crane... Naga, Ratling). A list.
conditionalvalues
Per numeric field, the value the card has in a deck that meets a condition, from its text: {"cost": [{"value": "2", "when": {"clan": ["Scorpion"]}}]} (Complications: 2 less Gold for Scorpion Clan players). when: clan (the deck Stronghold's clan, as its mon names it), sensei (the Sensei's title) or stronghold (the Stronghold's title); any listed value matches, the first matching entry wins. Not searched: min/max search keeps the printed value. For the deck view.
cost
Gold Cost: what the card costs to bring into play.
deck
Which deck the card goes in: Fate, Dynasty, Pre-Game or Other.
deckconstruction
Deck construction overrides for this card: {"max": n or null (any number), "countsas": "Title", "skip": [rule ids], "rules": {rule overlay while the card is in the deck, applied once per copy}}. In rules, a part {"add": {"min": 2}} changes the number the format sets instead of replacing it, so it works in every legality (Coastal Lane: {"rules": {"dynasty": {"add": {"min": 2}}}}). A copies rule with "titles": n lets only n different cards go past the limit they'd have without it (Eternal Victory Dojo: "max": 4, "titles": 2). BigDeck and Modern hold every card to one copy, max included. See docs/admin/deck-construction.md.
erratum
Notes on errata the card has had (where and why), shown on the card page. The errata'd wording itself goes in text.
focus
Focus Value: used for duels and focusing (Fate cards).
force
Force (F): a Personality's or Follower's military strength, or the bonus an Item, Spell or Follower gives ("+2").
formattedtitle
The title with markup (HTML entities such as • for the bullet, bold, accents). Shown in place of title where set. This is the preferred way to make sure cards display with accented characters, etc.
honor
Honor Requirement (HR): the family honor needed to recruit a Personality without dishonor; "-" for none.
iconised
Element and faction icons printed beside the keywords (Onyx and later), as :name+: codes (":water+:", ":shadowlands+:"); shown after the keywords.
keywords
Keywords and traits, one per entry; bold ones (<b>Unique</b>, <b>Cavalry</b>) are rules keywords.
legality
The arcs and formats the card is legal in, one per entry, with &nbsp; between words ("Rain&nbsp;of&nbsp;Blood&nbsp;(Diamond)"). Unreleased stays when present; derived formats are added by rule (docs/admin/derived-legality.md).
legalityderivedexception
Overrides the derived-format rules for this card: {"add": [...], "remove": [...]} format names ("Legacy", "Obsidian Hand"). See docs/admin/derived-legality.md.
mrp
What the most recent printing changed against earlier ones ("Given <b>Unique</b>", "Costs 2 less Gold"). Shown on the card page as MRP. Makes the Seardch MRP checkbox work.
needsreview
Open questions about the card for maintainers, one plain-text reason per entry; shown only to maintainers and searchable with Advanced → Needs review. Remove an entry once it's settled (docs/admin/needsreview.md).
notes
Free-text notes shown on the card page (release details, promo packs, oddities). A list of strings, one note each.
ph
Personal Honor (PH): honor gained when the Personality is recruited and lost when it's dishonored.
playtestname
The card's name in playtest, before it was printed ("[Ikoma Trainee]"); for reference, not shown.
production
Gold Production (GP): the gold a Holding or Stronghold produces, or a bonus ("+0").
puretexttitle
The title as plain text for text exports: no markup, "- exp" / "- exp2" for experienced versions.
ruling
Official rulings about the card, one HTML string each, usually ending in a link to the source; the links open in a popup on the card page (docs/admin/rulings.md). An erratum starts with "Erratum:".
rulingref
The rules team's answers to players' questions about the card (Rules Q&A), one HTML string each: <b>Q:</b> ... <b>A:</b> ... then a link to the answer in a copy of its source (L5R: the 2000-2006 mailing-list rules digests). The card page shows a button with the count that opens the list (docs/admin/rulings.md, "Rules Q&A").
startinghonor
Starting Family Honor (SH): a Stronghold's starting honor, or a Sensei/Wind's adjustment ("+3").
story
Storyline credit: the tournament or event and the player whose win the card commemorates.
strength
Province Strength (PS): a Stronghold's province strength, or a bonus to it ("+1").
subtitle
A Personality's printed subtitle ("Soul of Kakita Sadaka", "Master of Water"); a string.
text
The rules text, as HTML (<b> for bold keywords and trait names, <br> between abilities). The most recent (MRP) wording; a printing's own text field holds older wordings.
title
The card's name, as printed (a list of one string). Searches, lists and deck exports use it.
titletextsnm
The title the Sun and Moon export writes (overriding other titles), where it differs from puretexttitle (S&M's own spelling).
type
The card type (Personality, Holding, Action...), a list of one string; picked from the game's Type list in search.
variablevalues
Per numeric field, the values the card can really have when the printed one is *, X or 2*: {"cost": ["0-6"]} (a range), ["2", "0"] (either), ["1+"] (1 or more). Replaces the printed value's rule in min/max search.

Printing fields

Each printing (version) of a card has its own. The All box can't search these: use the search form's boxes (why).

art
Path of the art file in the Onyx Lives / 3D source files ("art/naga.png"). Not shown.
artist
The artist credit, a list of names as credited. Put doubts in the card's needsreview rather than guessing.
artistnotes
Notes about the artist credit (misprints, reports). Doubts belong in the card's needsreview now.
artnumber
The art's catalogue or file number from the publisher's art records. Not shown.
back
The card whose image is this printing's back, as ["<cardid>"] (L5R backs: 12664 to 12668, Oracle of the Void set), or ["none"] for no back. Leave it out to get the standard back from the game config's cardbacks rules; set it only where they are wrong. A front with its own back image (side: "back", or doublesided) uses that instead.
chi
This printing's own Chi, as printed on it, when it differs from the card's. The card holds the most recent (MRP) version; the site shows this one in printed mode.
clan
This printing's own clan, as printed on it, when it differs from the card's. The card holds the most recent (MRP) version; the site shows this one in printed mode.
cost
This printing's own Gold Cost, as printed on it, when it differs from the card's. The card holds the most recent (MRP) version; the site shows this one in printed mode.
designer
Who designed the card (AEG design files, 2008–2015 sets), first name as recorded. Not shown.
designernotes
The designer's art brief for the card (what the art should show). Not shown.
doublesided
"1" when the printing has exactly two images, a front and its own back (image[1]): the Ivory, Twenty Festivals and Onyx strongholds. Same as "side": "back" on image[1], which new data uses instead. The card page shows the back as a thumbnail under the front, and the PDF prints it (as its own card, or behind the front with Backs: Duplex).
erratum
Errata notes for this printing only.
flavor
Flavor text as printed, as HTML (usually in <i>).
focus
This printing's own Focus Value, as printed on it, when it differs from the card's. The card holds the most recent (MRP) version; the site shows this one in printed mode.
foil
Foil finish. Left out: regular only. "foil": this printing only came in foil (a foil that differs from the regular card, or a foil-only card). "both": this printing came in regular and in foil (an identical foil is not its own printing). Every game uses these values; list entries pick not foil / foil / either.
force
This printing's own Force, as printed on it, when it differs from the card's. The card holds the most recent (MRP) version; the site shows this one in printed mode.
formattedtitle
This printing's title with markup, when it differs from the card's.
honor
This printing's own Honor Requirement, as printed on it, when it differs from the card's. The card holds the most recent (MRP) version; the site shows this one in printed mode.
iconised
This printing's own icons, as printed on it, when it differs from the card's. The card holds the most recent (MRP) version; the site shows this one in printed mode.
image
The printing's images, front first: one {select, details, master} entry per image, naming files in the imagehash directory. Leave it out (with imagehash) when there's no scan (although an empty array should work shortly). Edit with Upload image rather than by hand. A printed back (a stronghold's story or mon back) is the entry right after its front, with "side": "back"; any other extra entry is another print of this printing (shown as Print 1 of 2, 2 of 2).
imagecleaned
Where this printing's image came from when its watermark was removed (e.g. a ccgtrader scan cleaned by a fan site), one plain-text note per image; internal, not on card pages. Marks images to replace with a clean scan of our own; remove it when the image is replaced.
imagehash
The image directory (under images.oracleofthevoid.com/<game>/) holding this printing's image files, usually the set's code. Goes with image.
keywords
This printing's own keywords, as printed on it, when it differs from the card's. The card holds the most recent (MRP) version; the site shows this one in printed mode.
legaldate
When the printing became tournament legal ("Upon Release", a date).
legality
The arcs this printing was legal in, from its border/bug (the arc icons); the card's legality is the union. Same form as the card's.
notes
This printing's own notes, as printed on it, when it differs from the card's. The card holds the most recent (MRP) version; the site shows this one in printed mode.
notmrp
true: this printing is never picked as the card's most recent printing (MRP) for an arc or format, e.g. a later reprint that shouldn't stand for the arc. Leave it out rather than false. Make MRP removes it. This applies mostly to Legality-based searches not pulling in random starter reprints.
number
The collector number printed on the card, within its set.
ph
This printing's own Personal Honor, as printed on it, when it differs from the card's. The card holds the most recent (MRP) version; the site shows this one in printed mode.
printedbugs
The arc bugs (legality kanji) printed on this printing, from Jade Edition on: jade, gold, diamond, lotus, samurai, celestial, emperor, ivory, twentyfestivals, onyx, shatteredempire; [] = no bug (Imperial-arc cards print none). What is printed, not legality: a ban takes the arc out of legality, never out of printedbugs. A misprint meant to carry a bug it doesn't show gets that bug. Filled by Check bugs (Set printedbugs); unsure bugs go to needsreview.
printedtitle
The title exactly as printed when it's a misprint of the real one or if the title has changed over time ("Jiujutsu Duel").
printedwithset
The set whose cards this printing was printed alongside (its look or bug), when that differs from set. Not shown.
production
This printing's own Gold Production, as printed on it, when it differs from the card's. The card holds the most recent (MRP) version; the site shows this one in printed mode.
promoquantity
The print run of a promo ("1,500"), where known. Not shown.

publisherurl
A link for the publisher (Onyx Lives' site), shown with it.
puretexttitle
This printing's plain-text title for exports, when it differs from the card's.
rarity
The printing's rarity in its set (Common, Uncommon, Rare, Fixed, Promo...), a list; several values when one printing covers versions that differ only in rarity or typesetting.

snmsetcode
The Sun and Moon set code the S&M export writes for this printing, where it differs from its set's code ("Promo", or "" for none). Leave it out when the set's code is right.
startinghonor
