Say I am attacking and I announce Jade's Roar reaction upon engaging and my opponent then announce The Golden Plain's reaction after that when it comes time to the action rounds since there is now a terrain in play and I cannot play one what happens? Do I have to pass?
A: Unless another effect would allow you to play a Terrain in that situation, then yes, you are forced to pass. Jon Palmer, "Jade's Roar VS The Golden Plains", 18 Mar 2013 - Q: If Jade Roar Exp uses the reaction, but the player does not play a terrain, is that counted as passing.
IE. If the other player then passes does the battle end?

A: Jade's Roar does not give you an Additional action, so if you pass instead of taking a Terrain action, this can count towards ending the Combat Segment's action round. Alex Jones, "Jade's Roar and the Reaction", 18 Mar 2013 - Q: When Jade's Roar uses the reaction to engaging, giving me Recon/the first opportunity to take a battle action which must be a terrain, is it required that I take the first opportunity to take a battle action or can I simply pass and use the reaction strictly for gaining Recon? Same kind of question, would it be legal to react if I do not have a terrain in hand?

A: You may take the Reaction to simply gain Recon, and choose not to play a Terrain whether or not you have one in your hand. Jon Palmer, "Jade's Roar and the Reaction", 15 Mar 2013
