Rules Q&A
- Q: A follower is destroyed and placed under Tachikaze. Is it in play?
Can it be targeted for a force bonus by Asasko Heiwa?
I have a 2 gold cost follower attached to my personality, and my opponent has Yoritomo Kanahashi in play. My follower is destroyed(Sundering Strike). Can I put the follower under the Tachikaze? At the time of its destruction it has zero gold cost, but when it is destroyed it then leaves play, so its gold cost goes back to 2 and then I can slide it underneath?

A: Cards under another card are out of play
Cards out of play may not be targeted by actions (unless specifically overriden). Heiwa is gonna have to hit something else.
The trigger on Tachikaze is "After an action resolves whose effects destroyed your follower with a Gold Cost of 1 or more". That's an entire condition, and it's dependent on the cost at the time of destruction. So Kanahashi will hurt (or in some situations, help) your use of the Tachikaze. Jon Palmer, "Tachikaze", 2 Jul 2013 - Q: Question 1: It has been stated that if an action causes a personality a Chi penalty (through tokens or not) and that person dies from having 0C, then the death is caused by the action and not by the rulebook chi-death affect. In the case of Cultist Infiltrator, would a chi-death caused by the -1C tokens it creates each Straighten Phase be considered a destruction of the personality by the card trait itself or by the limited action that attached the card? It would seems that it would be the trait that caused the destruction, but I'm just not sure.
Question 2: If a personality is destroyed (not the "unit", strictly the personality) by an actions effects and they have an attached follower, is the follower considered destroyed by the actions effects or is it the rulebook that destroyed them? This is in reference to the wording on The Tachikaze.
A: In this case the answer is that it's the trait on Cultist Infiltrator that ends up killing the Personality, not the action of attaching it. This makes your second question not directly pertinent here, although as a general rule, directly killing the Personality will not allow you to attach the follower to the Tachikaze as the follower is destroyed by the rulebook effect of what happens to attachments when their Personality leaves play. Jon Palmer, "Two Questions: The Tachikaze + Cultist Infiltrator", 5 Mar 2013 - Q: Card reads... "After an action resolves whose effect destroyed your Follower with a Gold cost of 1 or more: You may put it face-up under this card."
Does this mean that each time I have a personality die with a follower attached to him that I may put that follower under this card and re-attach it to a new personality next turn?
A: No. As the answer above states, the Tachikaze only triggers when the action's effect destroy the follower. For instance, a melee attack targeting the follower. An action's effect that only destroys the Personality is not also the effect that destroys the follower; in this case it's the rulebook's effect that destroys the follower, and the Tachikaze cannot save the follower. Jon Palmer, "Followers and Destroyed Personalities vs The Tachikaze", 19 Feb 2013 - Q: I'm sorry if this is answered somewhere but I used the forum search and couldn't find it. Anyway with the release of The Tachizake it got me wondering something: If a personality dies with followers attached (who weren't touched by the effect that destroyed the personality) are said followers "destroyed" as well, thus I can throw them on Noah's ark, or are they just discarded? Thanks for your help and pardon my ignorance if this is already written somewhere.
A: Per the CR on Attachments, "When a Personality leaves play, all his attached cards leave play in the same manner as he did. This leaving play is a rulebook effect contingent on the effect that took the Personality out of play, so the attachments are destroyed "for" (as a consequence of) the original effect, but not "by" the original effect."
Since the rulebook is destroying the followers in the situation you describe, and the Tachikaze requires resolution of an action whose effects destroyed them, the Tachikaze won't save them. Jon Palmer, "Followers and Destroyed Personalities vs The Tachikaze", 15 Feb 2013
