Rules Q&A
- Q: Oriole Imperial Vanguard says: "After the first time each phase a Political action targets this Personality, negate its remaining effects"
Test of Sincerity says: Political Open: Target another player's Human Personality. His controller may have him commit seppuku (rehonor, then destroy him). If he chose this, he gains 4 Honor. If he did not choose this, dishonor the Personality, and his controller loses 2 Honor.
Seppuku says: "Rehonor the Personality, then destroy him; these effects cannot be negated"
Scenario is that I target a peep attached with Oriole Imperial Vanguard with a Test of Sincerity. Will Oriole Imperial Vanguard negate "His controller may have him commit seppuku" and forces him to commit seppuku?
A: "may have him" is not an effect to be negated, so he will not be "forced" to commit seppuku.
Since making a choice is not an effect, the Personality's controller still must choose whether to commit seppuku or not. If he chooses seppuku, it will not be negated, the Personality will be destroyed, and the 4 honor gain will be negated. If he chooses not to seppuku, the Personality will not be dishonored, and the two honor loss will be negated. Jon Palmer, "Oriole Imperial Vanguard+Test of Sincerity", 17 Apr 2015 - Q: What happens if I target a personality with Oriole Imperial Vanguard with Desperate Sacrifice?
After the first time each phase a Political action targets this Personality, negate its remaining effects.
Political Battle: Destroy your target Courtier. Bow a target enemy Personality. Move him home. This movement will not be negated.
I undestand that the courtier gets destroyed, the personality does not bow, but it is send home. is this correct?
or does the negation of the effect also cancels the "will not move clause" ?
thanks
A: Yes, that is correct. "This movement will not be negated" overrides Oriole Imperial Vanguard's negating of the effects. Jon Palmer, "Oriole Imperial Vanguard versus Desperate Sacrifice", 17 Apr 2015 - Q: I have 2 personalities A and B. A has the Oriole Imperial Vanguard attached. My opponent targets both personalities with New Alliance.
I think that the whole action is negated by the follower's trait, and so both personalities A and B would not have their abilities switched off. Is this correct, or is it only A that is protected from the action, leaving B's ability switched off?
Also, my opponent should not draw a card if he invested, because the follower negates all remaining effects of the action. Is this correct, or can he still draw the card?
A: Yes, it would negate the entire action, protecting both abilities. And since Invest effects occur after all normal effects, it would negate that as well. Jon Palmer, "Oriole Imperial Vanguard + New Alliance", 27 Mar 2015 - Q: Oriole Imperial Vanguard reads "After the first time each phase a Political action targets this Personality, negate its remaining effects."
I have a personality attached with Oriole Imperial Vanguard and my opponent targets him with a political action, which is then negated by Oriole Imperial Vanguard. I then attach another Oriole Imperial Vanguard to the same personality. If my opponent targets the same personality with a political action during the same phase is the political action negated? (Im guessing not based on the way Oriole Imperial Vanguard is worded but I wanted to confirm).
A: You are correct. The game state knows it's not the first time that Personality has been targeted, even though the second Oriole Imperial Vanguard only just showed up. Brook Cunningham, "Multiple Oriole Imperial Vanguard", 2 Sep 2014 - Q: Hello, I had a question about the following scenario
I have one personality with an Oriole Imperial Vanguard and one personality without it. Both are targeted by A Growing Rift.
Does the negation on one of the guys negate the whole action, or does the negation basically not matter because the personality w/o OIV still can't attack with that guy. I'm assuming the entire action is negated because OIV says, "negates remaining effects."
Cheers!
Oriole Imperial Vanguard: After the first time each phase a Political action targets this Personality, negate its remaining effects. Growing Rift: Political Open: Target two Personalities controlled by the same player. They may not attack in the same army (this turn).
A: The effect preventing them from attacking together happens after the targeting, so Oriole Imperial Vanguard will negate the entirety of it. Jon Palmer, "A Growing Rift + Oriole Imperial Vanguard", 18 Aug 2014
