Rules Q&A
- Q: Hi all,
So, a friend of mine and I got into L5R recently, and I'm looking forward to trying out this Scout-based deck I've put together. There are a couple of interactions in it that I'm not sure about, though, so I'd appreciate it if someone could clarify them before I play the deck.
1) If I play some number of Recon Strategies as Reactions to the start of a battle, and then play Advanced Intelligence and draw more Recon Strategies with start-of-battle Reactions, can I then play those too? My intuition is that I can, since we are still in the mini-action phase for Reactions to the start of battle trigger, but I'm not 100% sure.
2) In a similar vein: if I use Forest Cover as a Reaction to the start of a battle to play Wasteland Scouts, can I then use Wasteland Scouts' start-of-battle Reaction even though they weren't in play when the trigger happened? Similarly, if I use Forest Cover to play Uji Saboteurs, thus giving my Personality the Naval keyword, can that Personality then launch a Naval Invasion even though they didn't have the keyword beforehand?
Thanks in advance.
A: 1. Yes, you may. Until both players pass their opportunities to react to Engaging, those reactions may still be taken even if they weren't in your hand to begin with.
2. Yes, for the same reason, it's legal to take actions on cards you bring into play while reacting to Engaging. Jon Palmer, "Forest Cover, Advanced Intelligence and other Reactions", 18 Sep 2013
