Rules Q&A
- Q: Hi,
I could not find a topic about this and i just wanted to clarity:
Request Authorization
Reaction: Before another player's Battle action resolves, target a Personality: Negate his movement to the current battlefield from the action's effects.
Improper Papers
Reaction: Before an action resolves, target a Personality: Negate his movement from the action's effects.
Would these cards prevent me from bringing Akodo Ashiko into battle and/or a personality using Requesting Reinforments?
Akodo Ashiko
Battle: If Ashiko is face-up in one of your provinces: Bring her into play at the current battlefield, paying all costs, and reducing her Gold cost by 2 if there are more units on the enemy side than on your side.
Requesting Reinforments
Battle: Bow your performing Scout and target a face-up Scout Personality in your province: Bring the target into play at the current battlefield, paying all costs. If you have Reconnaissance, you may take an additional Battle action.
Thank you!
A: Movement = "To change a unit’s location between battlefields or between home and battlefield (in either direction) due to an effect that specifies that it “moves” the unit."
Entering play from a province =/= movement, therefore it wouldn't be prohibited per your example. Brook Cunningham, "Movement and Bringing to Play", 25 Apr 2013 - Q: If I target a kensai with The Laws Strength, then react with Improper Papers at the correct time, is it already too late for the player to react with Hundred Fold Cut to negate the kensai's destruction?
A: This is correct. Hundred-Fold Cut reacts after targeting; Improper Papers reacts before an action's resolution.
In tournament play, you will need to give your opponent an explicit opportunity to play Hundred-Fold Cut. I've seen lots of players just throw down Law's Strength and Improper Papers together; your opponent must pass their opportunity to react to targeting before anyone gets the opportunity to react to movement.
