Rules Q&A
- Q: I have 2 different unique experienced versions of the same personality in my deck, one in play and one showing in my provinces. If I use Victory Through Deference to remove the Unique boldface keyword from the one in play, can I then recruit the other? Will they continue to remain in play the following turn?
If both my opponent and I have the same unique personality in play, what will happen if I try to resolve Egg of Pan Ku Experienced limited action targeting my opponents Unique?
A: Yes, if you remove Unique via Victory Through Deference, you may bring another copy of the Unique Personality into play. Since Uniqueness is only a restriction on entering play, both will remain in play when the Unique keyword returns.
The Egg of P'an Ku experienced ignores restrictions due to its text, and therefore can copy a Unique Personality without problem. Jon Palmer, "Unique questions", 4 Jul 2015 - Q: If a ninja shapeshifter copies pan ku's abilities and then steal someone does the ninja shapeshifter revert back at the end of the turn, and return the card it stole?
Second part of this question, since the wording on the card requires P'an ku to leave play or be unbowed, and ninja shapeshifter was never named P'an Ku to begin with as long as the original P'an Ku is bowed could you just keep capturing people with ninja shapeshifter?
A: When you copy an ability with the Ninja Shapeshifter, any words in the ability that refer to the original Personality become "Ninja Shapeshifter" for the purpose of the ability.
When Ninja Shapeshifter uses P'an Ku's ability, it reads "Limited, Ninja Shapeshifter may remain bowed. Take control of a target Personality with more Madness tokens than printed Personal Honor and remove those tokens. The target will not commit seppuku until Ninja Shapeshifter straightens or leaves play. After Ninja Shapeshifter does, give control of the target to his owner." When this ability is used, it gives Ninja Shapeshifter the ability to remain bowed until it straightens, even if Ninja Shapeshifter loses the ability. So you can keep the card.
Since the ability changes the name, the second question isn't pertinent to the way it works. Jon Palmer, "Ninja Shapshifters and Pan Ku", 1 May 2015 - Q: 1. Does a copy of a card include the "Name" of a card as in the case an Oboro copy? 2. Can you use the Invest trait on the created personalities when they enter play? 3. If another Invested Oboro enters play during the turn the created Oboro is in play, do I get a conspiracy token for the created Oboro or does it cease to exist right before it is shuffled and thus not count?
A: 1. Yes
2. No. One chooses to use an Invest trait before the card enters play, but by the time the created Invest trait exists, it's already too late to choose to use it.
3. The latter; it ceases to exist before it can be shuffled, so it doesn't count. Brook Cunningham, "Egg of P'an Ku Experienced + Oboro, the Liar", 18 Aug 2014 - Q: P'an Ku if the personality has loyal P'an Ku effect works on then? He can steal the personality?
Thanks and sorry about the noob question!
A: No, nothing about P'an Ku overrides the Loyal keyword. Jon Palmer, "P'an Ku Questions", 19 Jul 2014 - Q: Assume P'an Ku takes control of a personality using his ability. The personality's owner, during the course of a battle opposing the personality taken by P'an Ku, plays Coward! and targets P'an Ku, which straightens P'an Ku. The personality P'an Ku took control of goes back under the owner's control.
Does that personality return to the owner's control in the owner's home or at that battlefield?
A: Per the CR, if a Personality changes control while at a battlefield, it goes into its new controller's army at that battlefield. Jon Palmer, "P'an Ku losing control of personality", 25 Jun 2014 - Q: Let's say that you have a copy of Interrupt the Void's Flow and interrupt a limited action such that the action no longer has any valid targets. (e.g. Egg of P'an Ku and you only have a single Shugenja with Interrupt the Void's flow on it) What's the procedure for resolving the effects of the original action? Do they all fail, or just the ones depending on a the target that has now vanished?
A: Per the CR, "If an effect requires a target and the player cannot find a legal target, the effects stop immediately, and no further effects or targeting happen." Jon Palmer, "Interrupt the Void's Flow", 5 Jun 2014
