Rules Q&A
- Q: Hello,
My Sora with a weapon attached (Justice of the Crane) gets some Planted Evidence played against him.
My understanding is that the destruction of the personality and the item occur simultaneously and the owner gets to resolve each one. If I elect to have the weapon destroyed first, I should be allowed to draw a card for Sora's weapon being destroyed correct? If not (or if my reasoning is incorrect) what is the correct way to go about this?
Cheers!
Sora: Before one of Sora's Weapons is destroyed, draw a card Planted Evidence: Ninja Limited, 10gc : Destroy a target Personality with 3 or lower Chi, or with 4 or lower Chi if you control a Ninja Personality. Lose Honor equal to your Starting Family Honor.
A: Planted Evidence only destroys the Personality. Once the Personality is destroyed, its attachments leave play in the same manner (being destroyed - comp rules, p22). So Sora will be in your discard pile before the weapon is destroyed. Jon Palmer, "Weapon Equipped Sora + Planted Evidence", 18 Aug 2014 - Q: If a Personality equipped with Justice of the Crane is bow to use Tales of the Disgraced and Justice of the Crane is later destroyed during the same battle does the Personality still straighten before resolution?
A: Yes. The determination on whether or not he will straighten is made as part of the ability's resolution, and only depends on whether he is Fallen or a Magistrate at that time. Jon Palmer, "Justice of the Crane and Tales of the Disgraced", 30 May 2014 - Q: This is probably a silly question because after discussing it with a friend it seems pretty clear but I thought I would seek certainty.
Justice of the Crane: This Personality has Magistrate. Battle: Dishonor a target enemy Personality. If this Personality has the printed Magistrate keyword, you may take an additional action.
Is it the dishonored target that has to have Magistrate to take the additional action? or... is it my person with JotC attached and the item's bestowing of the Magistrate keyword doesn't grant an additional action because it's not 'Printed' on the card.
A: The personality with Justice of the Crane needs the printed Magistrate trait.
In this case, "this Personality" refers to the one with the weapon attached. Jon Palmer, "Printed Keyword", 5 Mar 2014 - Q: Let's say that I have Doji Soeka in play and an item such as Justice of the Crane (+3F, +1C) in my hand. Doji Soeka (2F, 4C, 3PH) has an action which says: Open: Target a Personality with lower Personal Honor than Soeka's Chi. Set his Force equal to his own Chi.
If I use her action on herself first (setting her force to 4) and then attach the Justice of the Crane to her as well, does the resulting personality have 7F (for this turn only)? Or is it 5F?
A: When you set a stat to a certain value, you give it a bonus or penalty equal to the difference between its current value and new value. In this case, Soeka would give herself a +2F bonus using her ability, and then the item's modifier would give an additional +3F, for 7F total (that turn).
