Rules Q&A
- Q: Given the recent ruling on Fires of Turmoil, does Trembling Earth fall into the same category of being able to bow anything?
Trembling Earth:
You may Equip this Spell as a Battle action to your Earth Shugenja at any location. Home Earth Battle: Bow a target enemy card. Destroy this Spell. (Home actions may be used from home.)
A: Note the use of "enemy" in Trembling Earth, and the lack of it in Fires of Turmoil.
Only cards in units can be "enemy" cards. Brook Cunningham, "Trembling Earth", 6 Aug 2014 - Q: When i interrupt FoT with VoE i must decide to increase Focus Value before discarding a card?
A: You must decide whether or not to use the Interrupt from Voice of Experience in the Play Interrupts step, which is before you discard the card in the Resolve Effects step. However, Voice of Experience says, "you may give them +1FV", so you decide whether to apply the effect once you've seen the card. Alex Jones, "Fires of Turmoil + Voice of Experience", 5 Aug 2014 - Q: The rule clearly states "to be legally targeted by an action during battle, any cards in a unit must be in the current battlefield." Strongholds, sensies, rings and holdings are never in a battle.
A: Indeed. However, neither are they ever in units, so the Rule of Location does not apply to them. Alex Jones, "Fires of Turmoil + Strongholds/Sensei", 5 Aug 2014 - Q: My question is simple.
Fires of Turmoil Discard the top card of a Fate deck. Target a card without attachments. If the discarded card's Focus Value is odd, bow the target (0 is even). Otherwise, straighten it. Move its unit home if the target has a Madness token.
I can play this, discard the card, look at it(checking the focus value first), and then choose the target. Is this correct?
A: Yes.
Targetting in the effects block is done in sequence with the effects. Alex Jones, "Fires of turmoil", 19 Jul 2013
