Rules Q&A
- Q: Asako Kaitoko
Personalities with Fallen, Kolat, Ninja, Nonhuman, or Shadowlands opposing Kaitoko have a maximum Force of 3.
Scenario Kaitoko is opposed to a base 3 force ninja with a weapon that gives a force modifier of +2, as stated on her card the ninja's maximum force is 3... if I play an action that reduces the ninja's force by -2, would this only reduce the force that is exceeding the maximum? Essentially resulting in the ninja still having 3 force? Or would the ninja have 1 force?
A: Maximums and minimums are always applied after doing all other force calculations.
In this case, the Ninja's original force would be 3 + 2, capped at 3, for a total of 3F. When you give him -2F, it becomes 3 + 2 - 2, capped at 3, and remains a total of 3F. Jon Palmer, "Asako Kaitoko and Maximum Force", 21 Jun 2014 - Q: While Asako Kaitoko Experienced is in play, is her trait only active while being opposed by a card with one of the named keywords in battle, or does it also restrict targeting in the action phase?
Example Situation: I have Tairao (A Shadowlands card) in play, and wish to use his Open action on Kaitoko. What happens? A) The action resolves as normal because Tairao is not opposing Kaitoko. B) The action may not target Kaitoko as her trait states "{..}actions from cards in their units may not target Kaitoko."
Tairao: Open: Target another player's Personality. After each time he assigns this turn, give him -2F/-1C and Shadowlands (this turn).
Asako Kaitoko Experienced: Personalities with Fallen, Kolat, Ninja, Nonhuman, or Shadowlands opposing Kaitoko have a maximum Force of 3, and actions from cards in their units may not target Kaitoko.
A: Her trait only affects cards with those keywords that are opposing her. So, no Action Phase protection, since she's not opposing them at that time. Brook Cunningham, "Targetting Asako Kaitoko Exp in the Action Phase", 17 May 2014 - Q: Card in question: Target two Personalities at any location controlled by the same player. Switch their locations. Straighten each one of them that is not Fallen or Nonhuman. (Home actions may be used from home.)
Scenario: I have Karasu attacking at province A. My opponent defends with one personality at province B, and one at province C. Can I, as my action at battlefield A, switch the positions of his personalities at B and C? If not, what does "At any location" really mean?
A: Your scenario is a perfectly legal use of Karasu's ability.
At the cost of potentially sounding like a jerk, "at any location" really does mean at any location. Ben Higgins, "Iuchi Karasu Inexp", 4 Jan 2014 - Q: Greetings,
there's been a pretty big discussion in our playgroup since this card was previewed. Does Ayumu's trait means that he can ALSO perform Tactical Advantage as an Open, or does it mean that he can ONLY perform Tactical Advantage as an Open, making him unable to perform it as a Battle?
"Card Title Ikoma Ayumu Force/Chi 4 4 HR/GC/PH 7 8 3 Keywords Lion Clan • Hero • Samurai • Experienced • Tactician • Unique Text Will not gain Fallen or Shadowlands. The rulebook Tactical Advantage is an Open action for you if you target Ayumu with it."
Thank you very much in advance.
A: I apologize for this, but rules questions regarding Gates of Chaos cards who'll have to wait for the moment.
We will answer questions on GoC cards once the announcement in this forum is removed. Ben Higgins, "Ikoma Ayumu exp - Tactical Advantage", 14 Aug 2013
