Rules Q&A
- Q: Based on the slight difference in wording between these 2 cards(text below) I wanted to ask a quick clarification.
Akodo Dairuko: After you destroy an enemy card during battle (including resolution), gain 1 Honor.
Ichigo Sensei: After an enemy card is destroyed during a battle, if the destruction was not from another player's card effect, gain 1 Honor.
1)Based on the difference in wording of these 2, Ichigo sensei would gain honor for cards destroyed by the rulebook effect correct?
Aka opponent's personality has 2 follower attachments, you Come on at a time them and win.
With Dairuko you would gain 1 honor for the 1 card you destroyed, however with Ichigo Sensei you would gain 1 honor 3 times(1 for the card you destroyed, and 1 each for the followers destroyed by the rule book effect)
2) If your opponent killed their own personality in a battle(same situation 2 followers) or say you won their come on at a time duel. Dairuko would award you 1 honor for destroying the personality card(or none if they destroyed their own personality), while Ichigo sensei would award you 1 honor twice(1 for each follower, but would not award you honor for the personality as they were killed by another players card effect)
Thanks
A: Your statements are correct.
When a card effect destroys a Personality (eg via a duel, or with Zlkyt's Family + Okura is Released) rather than a unit (eg with Thoughtless Sacrifice), the attachments are destroyed by the rulebook. Thus, Ichigo Sensei's trait will give you honour for the attachments, but Akodo Dairuko's trait will not. Alex Jones, "Akodo Dairuko VS/and Ichigo", 27 Jul 2015 - Q: If I have Ichigo Sensei and Akodo Dairuko, and I destroy a province with a fortification attached (but no defenders) do I gain any honor? If so, how much (and which cards trigger the gain?)
A: Both Ichigo Sensei and Akodo Dairuko exp2 gain you honour for destroying enemy cards, but Fortifications are not cards in units and so are not enemy cards. Alex Jones, "Ichigo Sensei/Akodo Dairuko + Fortifications", 21 Jul 2015 - Q: In this question, a scenario is presented where Akodo Dairuko xp2 is dishonored and destroys cards in battle resolution that Shosuro Takazaki has used her engage.
To clarify the answer to that post: Does Dairuko gain honor before Takazaki negates the honor gain from Battle Resolution or does Takazaki negate any honor gain that might come from cards being destroyed in Battle Resolution?
A: EDIT 2: It seems my initial answer was in error. The definition of "for" from previous CRs was accidentally omitted from the Ivory one. It is thus:
"FOR: An effect that depends on another effect or occurrence is indicated by “for” wording. Example: An Honor loss “for” losing a duel is any Honor loss that is specifically contingent on losing a duel, be it an effect of the duel itself, a Reaction, a triggered trait, or something else.
“For” wording only refers to a specifically named consequence of the effect, not to a consequence arising from a chain of contingent effects. Example: In the case above, if a dishonorable Personality is destroyed for losing a duel, and his controller loses Honor, this is not an Honor loss “for” losing the duel, but an Honor loss for dying."
I was misremembering the second part, as to how "removed" a triggered trait is from its trigger to its effects, but such a thing is specifically mentioned in part 1.
Therefore, since Dairuko's Honor gain is indeed "for" destroying enemy cards, Takazaki would prevent it during/in battle resolution, and a dishonorable Dairuko would not rehonor from it. Brook Cunningham, "Dishonoring Akodo Dairuko xp2 (plus Shosuro Takazaki)", 17 Jun 2014 - Q: Akodo Dairuko xp2 reads: "After you destroy an enemy card during battle (including resolution), gain 1 Honor."
Dairuko is dishonored, and wins a battle against a 2 card army.
a) What comes first, Dairuko's trait or the honor gain by battle resolution? b) Disregarding the previous question (Shosuro Takazaki used her engage), does Dairuko trait produce 2 honor, or 1+1? (meaning: is all spent on rehonoring, or just 1 point?)
Thanks!
[EDIT: Mod edit of title, due to thread merging. -- MB2001]
A: a) In the scenario you describe, Dairuko's trait would trigger first. The loser's cards are first destroyed (triggering her trait), then the winner gains honor for each destroyed or rehonors his dishonorable Personalities instead (note: the sequence is different in a tied battle).
EDIT:
b) Dairuko's trait triggers each time you destroy a card, so in the case of multiple destructions happening simultaneously, she would first rehonor, then you would gain 1 honor. Even though the two cards' destruction is simultaneous, effects triggered by their destruction are resolved in a sequential manner (see Timing Conflicts, CR pg. 30).
HOWEVER, I should note that in your exact described scenario, Dairuko would not rehonor at all. Takazaki not only stops the normal Battle Resolution Honor gain, but all gains that happen in Resolution. See below! Brook Cunningham, "Dishonoring Akodo Dairuko xp2 (plus Shosuro Takazaki)", 30 Apr 2014 - Q: Hello.
Let's say Akodo Dairuko and Matsu Misato are at a battlefield. Both personalities are dishonored. Matsu Misato uses her Battle, Bow: Ranged 3 Attack with +1 strength for every 10 points of Family Honor you have - killing an opposing personality. One of the traits on Akodo Dairuko states: After you destroy an enemy card during battle (including resolution), gain 1 Honor. Per the rulebook: Before a player gains one or more points of Honor from an action or trait that targeted or came from one or more of his or her dishonorable Personalities. If rehonoring the Personalities is not one of that action or trait’s effects, the dishonorable Personalities' rehonoring is substituted (p. 57) for the Honor gain. Now, Matsu Misato performed the murdering but the trait is printed on Akodo Dairuko. Who is rehonored?
A: In the scenario you describe, only Dairuko would be rehonored.
The Honor gain is not a direct effect from Misato's action, only from Dairuko's trait. Brook Cunningham, "Akodo Dairuko and dishonored people", 21 Apr 2014 - Q: Dairuko says "After you destroy an enemy card during battle (including resolution), gain 1 Honor."
1. If I have Dairuko in play and win a Come One at a Time duel against a personality with attachments, do I gain an honor for each card in the unit or just one for the personality?
Ominous Armor says "Before another player's card destroys this Personality, destroy this Item instead."
2. Is the armor considered destroyed by itself or by the other player's card (since it's an "destroy instead" rather than "destroy to negate")?
A: 1. Just one for the Personality. Dairuko specifies that you gain 1 honor for each card you destroyed, and the attachments on the Personality are destroyed by the rulebook when the Personality is destroyed, not by you.
2. The armor is destroyed by its own trait, not by the other player's action. Jon Palmer, "Akodo Dairuko Exp. 2 and Lethal Duels / Ominous Armor", 5 Mar 2014
