Rules Q&A
- Q: I'm curious how this is possible? How do you Trigger the Shadowed Estate action negation by falsely using a JPI when it's already in play? Seems there is a good faith issue here if you try to trigger an interrupt when no legal action is inciting the action
Interrupt: After you Recruit this Holding from a Province, search your Dynasty deck for a non-Unique, Gold-producing Holding with a printed Gold Cost of 1 and refill the Province face-up with it.
A: Interrupts generally have no conditions which determine what actions they may interrupt. For example, A Stout Heart may interrupt A Game of Dice (either yours or your opponent's): that A Game of Dice does not create Fear effects is irrelevant to the legality of playing A Stout Heart.
Only if the text of the Interrupts effects begin with "If" are there any constraints on whether the Interrupt action is legal to take in response to another action - see here for more details.
Thus, you may take the action on an in-play Jade Pearl Inn to interrupt (almost) any action; since the action won't Recruit it, the delayed effect will not be triggered, but that does not matter for determining the legality of taking Jade Pearl Inn's Interrupt action. Alex Jones, "Shadowed Estate vs Jade Pearl Inn", 11 Mar 2014 - Q: I'm playing Scorpion and I have a Jade Pearl Inn in play.
My opponent flips his cards and I see 1 Jade Pearl Inn in his provinces.
I name the card Jade Pearl Inn.
Does this prevent my opponent from using his Jade Pearl Inn's Interrupt?
Jade Pearl Inn Interrupt: After you Recruit this Holding from a Province, search your Dynasty deck for a non-Unique, Gold-producing Holding with a printed Gold Cost of 1 and refill the Province face-up with it.
Shadowed Estate: Tireless Open: Name a Fate card, or name a Dynasty card in play. Negate the effects of the next action from a card with that title.
A: Nothing in the rules prevents that (except, perhaps, the Rule of Presence). Alex Jones, "Shadowed Estate vs Jade Pearl Inn", 11 Mar 2014 - Q: From here
If the only copy of Jade Pearl Inn is in a province then isn't that an out of play area and therefore can't be named by the Shadow Estates.
A: Please note his first sentence. The Scorpion player already has a Jade Pearl Inn in play.
If there was not a Jade Pearl Inn in play, you're correct, it wouldn't be able to be named using the stronghold. Jon Palmer, "Jade Pearl Inn & Shadow Estates of the Scorpion", 11 Mar 2014 - Q: So per the ruling in viewtopic.php?f=59&t=106396 on Jade Pearl Inn, can I use any ability in province or just interrupts?
A: This will become clearer once we get the Ivory Edition CR up for everyone, but you can only announce and use Interrupts on a card out of play if the Interrupt references the card entering play.
Jade Pearl Inn and the Ivory MRP of Togashi Korimi are prime examples of this kind of Interrupt usage. Ben Higgins, "Can I use abilities in provinces?", 12 Jan 2014
