Rules Q&A
- Q: If someone challenges my personality with Koan's Robes or Ominous Armor attached with a lethal duel and i focus deny the false form and he has 3C more than me, would the destruction be negated by the attachment?
A: Deny the False Form is the source of the destruction in this case. Neither Ominous Armor nor Koan's Robes will save your Personality from your own Deny the False Form. Jon Palmer, "Deny the false form and Koan's Robes/omnious armor", 25 Jun 2014 - Q: Would Ominous Armor prevent a personality from dying if it is hit with a card that gave them 0 Chi?
A: Ominous Armor would be destroyed instead of the Personality dying. Then, assuming the Personality continues to have 0 Chi, they would again die from having 0 Chi. Jon Palmer, "Ominous Armor and Chi Death", 13 Jun 2014 - Q: I have an army of personalities swinging in to try and take a province. Two of those personalities are Susumu Yanada. My opponent defends with a personality with an Ominous armor attached. If I make a fear attack sufficient to bow his personality, can I interrupt with both Yanada's to destroy the personality that Ominous is attached to?
A: In this case each Yanada adds its own "destroy any card it bows" to the original Fear effect. Ominous Armor will take care of one Yanada's modification, but the second will still kill the Personality.
The Fear effect essentially reads "Target an enemy Follower or Personality without Followers and bow it if its Force is equal to or lower than X. Destroy any card it bows. Destroy any card it bows." Jon Palmer, "2 Susumu Yanada's VS Ominous Armor", 10 Jun 2014 - Q: If Rampant Paranoia is in effect and I have an Ominous Armor equiped when my opponent tries to shoot me in the face , will the armor get destroyed or does Rampant Paranoia save my personality first?
A: Rampant Paranoia is a Prevention Effect. Ominous Armor is a Substiution Effect.
According to the rules on Timing Conflicts in the Comprehensive Rules, Rampant Paranoia will apply itself before Ominous Armor. Ben Higgins, "Rampant Paranoia & Ominous Armor", 21 Apr 2014 - Q: Hi there,
Very sorry if this has been asked before in some other form, but I couldn't find it so here goes: I have a personality with Ominous Armor. Said personality is challenged to a lethal duel (for example A Magistrate Falls). I focus Kharmic Strike. Is the Ominous Armor destroyed to save my guy and the challenger destroyed (due to the Kharmic Strike)? Or is my Kharmic Strike responsible for the destruction, mooting my Armor?
I am pretty sure my Ominous Armor would save my personality in this situation, but a discussion has emerged and it needs your quelling!
Thank you.
A: The destruction comes from the card that created the duel; it says right on A Magistrate Falls to destroy the loser. Just because Kharmic Strike made both Personalities lose doesn't mean the source of the effect is somehow "transferred". So, what I'm obviously try to say is, yes you are correct; in your described scenario, your Ominous Armor would get destroyed instead of your Personality. Brook Cunningham, "Kharmic Strike and Ominous Armor", 22 Mar 2014 - Q: Dairuko says "After you destroy an enemy card during battle (including resolution), gain 1 Honor."
1. If I have Dairuko in play and win a Come One at a Time duel against a personality with attachments, do I gain an honor for each card in the unit or just one for the personality?
Ominous Armor says "Before another player's card destroys this Personality, destroy this Item instead."
2. Is the armor considered destroyed by itself or by the other player's card (since it's an "destroy instead" rather than "destroy to negate")?
A: 1. Just one for the Personality. Dairuko specifies that you gain 1 honor for each card you destroyed, and the attachments on the Personality are destroyed by the rulebook when the Personality is destroyed, not by you.
2. The armor is destroyed by its own trait, not by the other player's action. Jon Palmer, "Akodo Dairuko Exp. 2 and Lethal Duels / Ominous Armor", 5 Mar 2014 - Q: Regarding wording of this card :
Before another player's card destroys this Personality, destroy this Item instead.
Is it a card destroy that destroys a persoanlity or is it an action on a card?
Can a card destroy a personality?
A: Much like with "attacks" and "defends", there are some other wordings for Ivory that are less specific than before. You can read this as "before an effect that comes from another player's card..." Jon Palmer, "Ominous Armor", 3 Mar 2014
