Rules Q&A
- Q: I control two Brilliant Cascade Inns. My opponent controls one honorable Personality and plays Wheels Within Wheels to seppuku his Personality. Will the two Brilliant Cascade Inns reduce the honor gain from Wheels Within Wheels?

Trait on Brilliant Cascade Inn
A: Each Brilliant Cascade Inn will reduce by 1 the honour gain from your opponent's Wheels Within Wheels if he or she controls no Personalities after the seppuku. Alex Jones, "Brilliant Cascade Inn and Wheels Within Wheels", 26 Aug 2015 - Q: This came up in my testing recently, we defaulted to it being possible, but I'd like to know the correct ruling.
Suppose I have a Brilliant Cascade Inn. I resolve mercantile conflict, and my opponent resolved Abdication on his turn. I target a dishonored personality with printed PH of 1. What honor loss do I get?
My assumption: I am the active player so I choose the order the effects are applied. So I target the loss of 1, increase it to 2 with conflict, then apply abdication to lower it back to 1. Result: loss of 1.
My opponent's thought: Target his PH 1 individual, abdication reduces it to 0, then conflict tries to increase a 0 and cannot, because it is not a loss. Result: no loss and I look silly.
Which situation is correct? If neither, how does this action resolve?
Thank you.
A: These are both triggered effects with the same trigger, so the active player will choose the order in which they resolve. The loss would be 1 in this case, if you want it to be. Jon Palmer, "Abdication, holdings and additive bonuses", 9 Apr 2015 - Q: Another rules question came up in a game today. Does Brilliant Cascade Inn trigger the trait of Nexus of Lies?
A: Technogashi is correct. To elaborate, an Honor loss (or any effect) "from" a card doesn't make any logical "because of" leaps (like, I imagine you were wondering if the loss was somehow "from" the Personality that Cascade Inn targeted, but no); it literally means "on the card": "FROM # Some things check to see if other effects, actions, or targeting come “from” a given source. The source is the card that the effect, action or targeting is printed on, or the rulebook if it is printed there." -- definition of "From", Comprehensive Rules pg. 78
(Replying to a player: "So if I'm reading that right, if I were to say do a duel that killed a dishonorable personality then Nexus of Lies would activate because the honor loss is coming from a card they owned?") No. Dying dishonorably honor loss comes from the Rulebook. Brook Cunningham, "Sun and Moon #rules-questions", 2 Jun 2024
