Rules Q&A
- Q: So he himself is not experienced, but he is the "Soul of" an experienced personality.
The question is: can he be retrieved from your Dynasty deck with Boundless Sight (Search your Dynasty deck for an Experienced Personality and refill this Province with that card, face-up)?
A: No. This is in the L5R FAQ at http://l5r.alderac.com/ccg/faq.html under Section Two: Clarifying the Rules. Martin Lund, "Rules for 2 December 2004", 6 Dec 2004 - Q: When I search my deck for a specific card (EG with Boundless Sight), can I voluntarily fail to find a card? (EG Hida Kuon is the only guy left and I don't have his honour requirement this turn).
From the Rules for 8 March 2004, Jeff said:
A: "> Any card that says 'Search your deck': Martin Lund, "Rules for 6 October 2004", 11 Oct 2004 - Q: Can Boundless Sight get personalities that are a soul of?
A: No (Diamond Edition rules, pg. 51). Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 24 November 2003", 24 Nov 2003 - Q: Is someone like Bayushi Tsimaru, who has the keyword 'Experienced' in his traits, but is not experienced himself, eligible to be retrieved with [Boundless Sight]?
A: No (DE rules, pg, 51; Archive, General Rules, Soul of). Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 3 November 2003, Part 2", 4 Nov 2003 - Q: Does the ruling for Gifts and Favors also work for Imperial Gift or even Boundless Sight. My opponent stated before he even went looking that the only item he had in his deck was his clan sword which was already in play, but he looked through his deck and then shuffled anyway.
A: There is no ruling on Gifts and Favors. The "you lose if you don't find one" result is new text written onto the Most Recent Printing of the card. There is nothing to extend to other cards. Jeff Alexander, "post for 23 January 2003", 24 Jan 2003 - Q: My question is about what happens when Hakahime fetches a refilling event (such as Boundless Sight and A New Wall).
Either :
1/ The province is refilled by the fetched card, someone (the active player ?) decides which of both card the province hold is discarded (since the province can only hold 1).
2/ You cannot refill a province that already hold a card. And the effect fails somehow.
Togashi Imura
A: Discard the card in the Province. Zen Faulkes, "Hakahime + specific events", 2 Apr 2005 - Q: A few Events (Boundless Sight, A New Wall) don't enver play, but as part of their resolution, ask to be replaced by a specific card. My understanding is that the Event resolves, but since if refuses to be discarded, the card cannot be put into the Province instead.
A: Correct. Zen Faulkes, "Yoritomo Matsoru's lock", 20 Feb 2005
