Rules Q&A
- Q: Myuken 3F/2C - Open: Myuken copies one keyword from your target Personality.
Aranai Sensei - Your Personalities with 3 or more Chi have Tactician. Unless they have the printed Tactician keyword, they do not have the Tactical Advantage ability.
I control Aranai, have Myuken and a 3C personality. I use Myuken's ability to copy the Tactician keyword from the 3C personality.
Has Myuken the Tactical Advantage ability?
I would say yes because "Unless they have the printed Tactician keyword, they do not have the Tactical Advantage ability." they referring to "Your Personalities with 3 or more Chi". Since Myuken only has 2C he isn't affected by Aranai's limitation.
However if he somehow gets +1C, he would loose the Tactical Advantage ability since he now would be affected by Aranai's limitation.
Did I get this correct?
A: Yes, you are correct. Myuken can copy Tactician, and he gets Tactical Advantage as long as he is not 3C. If he gets a chi bonus and reaches 3C, he loses the ability. Jon Palmer, "Aranai Sensei + Myuken", 24 May 2015 - Q: Can Myuken copy Nonhuman so before Asp Skirmisher comes in, the little naga scout is good to go?
A: As long as Myuken copies it from an in-play Nonhuman Personality, yes, this will work. Human is indicated by the absence of the Nonhuman keyword. Jon Palmer, "Myuken and Nonhuman", 9 Jun 2014 - Q: http://www.alderac.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=108491
With regard to this ruling are the two parts of the aranai sensei wording not separate conditions modifying your personalities. My point being that it doesnt matter how Myuken gained the keyword does the sensei's wording not prevent him using the Tactical Advantage ability because it is not printed on him?
Thanks
Az
A: As long as Myuken has 2 or less Chi, the second line of Aranai Sensei's trait does not apply to him. Its pronoun "They" refers back to the first line's text, "Your Personalities with 3 or more Chi", not just the "Your Personalities" part. Brook Cunningham, "Myuken - Aranai Sensei continued", 29 May 2014 - Q: I have a 3 chi personality in play, which gains tactician, but, not the tactical advantage ability, from Aranai Sensei. If Myuken copies the tactician trait from that 3 chi personaliy who has gained tactician from Aranai sensei, would Myuken still keep the tactical advantage ability, assuming Myuken's chi is still under 3?
A: "Tactician" is a keyword, not a trait, and copying isn't permanent by default, so he would lose the keyword (and thus, the ability) at the end of the turn which you used the copy ability.
But otherwise the answer to your question is "yes!". C-c-c-combo!!! Brook Cunningham, "Aranai Sensei + Myuken", 25 May 2014 - Q: Is Genmyo legal to play as Myuken? They're both Soul of Kyogen with the same stats and battle action?
A: No, you may not play Genmyo. Jon Palmer, "Myuken / Genmyo / Kyogen", 1 Apr 2014 - Q: Myuken Force 3/Chi2 HR-/GC4/PH1 Keywords: Actor • Ronin • Soul of Kyogen Open: Myuken copies one keyword from your target Personality.
If Myuken copy the keyword shugenja, after that, I attached a spell to him. ¿ When begin the opponent's turn the spell must be unattached as Myuken isn't shugenja in this moment?
If Myuken copy the keyword Kensai, after that, I attached two weapons to him. ¿When begin the opponent's turn the second weapon must be unattached as Myuken isn't kensai in this moment?
Regards,
A: In both cases, as long as the attachment was legal when you made it, the card will stay attached. However, there's an additional caveat to spells, in that they can only be used by shugenja, so Myuken will need to copy the keyword again if he wishes to use it. Jon Palmer, "Myuken with attachment of spell or weapon", 3 Mar 2014 - Q: If Myuken was given the Shugenja keyword then had some Spells attached to him, what happens to the Spells? I assume they fall off when he loses the Shugenja keyword. (Just an idle thought I had at work)
A: No, they don't fall off. Attachments' legality is only checked at the point when they're attached. That said, there is a special Spell Rule that their abilities can only be used ("cast") while attached to a Shugenja. Brook Cunningham, "Sun and Moon #rules-questions", 15 Aug 2023
