Rules Q&A
- Q: If I attack multiple provinces which have 7 PS, and play multiple Broad Front's, assuming there is no opposing army, seems to me that I only need 15 army strenght to break all involved provinces, since the effect of each Broad Front will be calculated separately, and each one will check for current + targeted PS (7+7=14).
Am I correct?
A: Looks right.
To spell out in more detail, if you play one Broad Front on Provinces A and B, and another on Province B and C, the first effect will only destroy Province A and B. The second destroys B and C. Zen Faulkes, "Multiple Broad Front's", 11 Sep 2011 - Q: From here
quote="Remi" Can I play Crushing Attack during a battle action segment if my army has 1 or more strength and without any opposing unit?
quote="Zen Faulkes" No. There must be an army.
Does the above mean that Broad Front suffers the same restriction? (ie must have an defending army at the second province?)
Broad Front
Battle: Target two battlefields that have a unit you control. Move all units at the first to the second. At the resolution of the second one's battle, if the attacking army exceeds the defending army's Force by more than the combined Strength of both Provinces, the battle destroys both Provinces.
Crushing Attack
Battle: You may only play Crushing Attack if your army currently has more than twice as much total Force as the opposing army. The battle action phase ends (resolve any terrain, if applicable), and this battle is now resolved.
A: Absent stats: If a card’s type does not have that stat, the card does not have that stat either – the stat is absent from the card. If something in the game needs to know the value of an absent stat, the value is zero. If a side at a battlefield has no units, its total army Force is treated as an absent stat. Absent stats do not receive bonuses or penalties.
Broad Front does not care whether there are units in the opposing army; it can still destroy the two provinces if your army has sufficient force.
However, note that Crushing Attack was printed when the rules were slightly different. The ruling for Crushing Attack is specific to it, and has never applied to Broad Front. It is not precedential. Alex Jones, "Unopposed Broad Front", 13 Aug 2009 - Q: [OBH] Iplay Samurai's Fury and Broad Front Combo. I have Moto Latomu XP in the Army, Can I still perform my Range attacks from my other personalities moving in?
A: Yes. No reason that you couldn't. Brook Cunningham, "Sun and Moon #rules-questions", 17 Jun 2026 - Q: [OBH] Naga Storm Mirumotos Mountain vs multiple Broad Front. For example from province A to B and From C to B. Can I choose the order? First A, second B (fails due NSMM effect), then C and B again. A, B and C will be destroyed, no?
A: Yep, that all seems to check out, as long as you're the active player and not 2x Broad Fronting on a Counterattack. Brook Cunningham, "Sun and Moon #rules-questions", 10 May 2025 - Q: [Legacy,Lotus] if I attack provinces A,B y C and play Broad Front from A to B y from C to B. I need more force than the army + PS (A+B) and army + PS (B+C). Can I destroy 3 province in a single turn? I do not remember rulings for Broad Front in Lotus (excepting about Raids) Ok, I had in my mind that every broad front are separated effects and compare between de two provinces, not the total you target
A: Yeah, I'm pretty sure you can double (or even triple) Broad Front, and all the Provinces will go splat if your army can just take 2 total (Your Army F enemy Army + B (+ A + C + D, each compared separately by each separate BF effect)). @kempy_nezumi If there's anything conflicting Ruling-wise, it might be in your Forum archives, but from just reading, I think it works, unless I'm missing something. Brook Cunningham, "Sun and Moon #rules-questions", 20 Apr 2025 - Q: @kempy_nezumi Just need a clarification for Broad Front. If I attack 2 provinces without any defenders, will Broad Front have no effect since the text says " if the attacking army exceeds the defending army's Force". Is it required then that there be defenders in the provinces that I attacked and used Broad Front?
A: No. CR has this wording:
Battle Resolution In the Resolution Segment, the Attacker and Defender total their armies’ Force at the battlefield. A side with no units has zero Force. Ah. Brook isn't on this Discord - I'll discuss it with him on the Oracle of the Void Discord. We'll likely either replace "army" with "side", or omit the word entirely, eg: "if the attacking Force exceeds the defending Force by ..." Alex Jones, "Sun and Moon #rules-questions", 12 Jan 2022
