Rules Q&A
- Q: Does the gold production penalty for Contested Market apply to the seconard trait from Colonial Market and other such holdings? Similarly, do wealth tokens also modify these traits?
Contested Market: Economic Open, 2 gold : Choose a player with three or more Holdings in play. Give his target Holding -2GP (this turn).
Colonial Market: Bow: Produce 3 Gold. Once per turn, produce 1 Gold that can only pay for a single action from your card in play.
A: The traits on Colonial Market that produce gold are gold production traits, and are affected by +nGP and -nGP effects. Alex Jones, "Contested Market and Colonial Market", 21 Oct 2014 - Q: Can I use Colonial Market to overpay for an Open or Limited action on one of my cards in play?
Example: Tsuruchi inexp loads tokens. Can I overpay and have 1 gold floating when he does so?
A: Well, first of all, you can't pay (or overpay) for actions that have no Gold Cost.
Second of all, Colonial Market's 1G-producing trait specifically restricts that 1 Gold to only being able to pay for an action. Thus, it can't "float" and pay for anything else; it HAS to pay for an action on a card in play. "Be produced for" =/= "pay"; wherein the latter means actually putting that Gold toward that cost.
