Rules Q&A
- Q: "the force of your Brothers in Arms (basic) after using deadly orders on it will be (2 base x 2 equals) 4." Isn't it a bonus of 4 (twice its current Force), for a total of 6 force?
Deadly Orders Battle: Target your Commander: Give your target Follower a Force bonus equal to twice its current Force. After this battle's resolution, destroy the Follower.
A: Right. Fixing! Dan Jacobson, "Deadly Orders", 23 Mar 2009 - Q: If a Brothers in arms (non experienced) gets destroyed, and comes back, can he use that ability again? Since he had lost the ability when he hit the graveyard?
A: Yes, for reason stated. The trait of the Experienced Brothers in Arms affects only cards in play (http://rules.l5r.com/Physically_marked_ ... ut_of_play). Zen Faulkes, "Brothers In Arms + Fortified Camp", 24 Sep 2008 - Q: If my oponent destroys my Brother In Arms Experienced and then I use Fortified Camp to attach it back again to one of my personalities do I get to use the battle action (on) the normal Brothers In Arms one more time even if already used before?
A: Yes, for reasons stated in the post you linked to. Zen Faulkes, "Brothers In Arms + Fortified Camp", 23 Sep 2008 - Q: (W)hen a bowed follower is destroyed and I react with Fortified Camp, does it ataches bowed as he was when destroyed or unbowed since he's coming into play again?
A: Unbowed. The card fully hit the discard, where it lost its bowed/unbowed status. Zen Faulkes, "Brothers In Arms + Fortified Camp", 23 Sep 2008 - Q: Following situation:
I have a personality in play with the followers Brothers in Arms and Brothers in Arms Exp. I use the Battle ability, granted by the Brothers in Arms Exp., on the normal Brothers in Arms. Later that turn the Brothers in Arms Exp. get destroyed and go to the discard pile. Now the normal Brothers in Arms has lost its Battle ability. Now I use Castle Barracks to attach the Brothers in Arms Exp. to a personality, giving the Battle ability to all Brothers in Arms. Can the normal Brothers in Arms use his ability now? The main question is if a card gains an ability, loses it, and regains it later in the turn, is it restricted by the once per turn rule of abilities? The rulebook says each seperate ability can only be used once per turn. Are the gained and regained abilities the same or seperate? Thank you for your time.
A: It is considered to be a new effect on the card - and thus a new ability on the card distinct from any other the card might have or have had in the past. Martin Lund, "Gained Abilities and Once Per Turn", 17 Jan 2008 - Q: In reference to my previous question, I'd like to ask another one about Equipping and Misdirection.
I am still playing Eastern Hub Port. At the current battlefield, I control two personalities : one Samurai and one Shugenja. My hand contains only one attachment card: a Brothers in Arms, which can only attach to a Samurai.
I announce that I am using the "Equip" ability. Before choosing targets for this action, my opponent plays Misdirection. He chooses this action is targeting my Shugenja. What happens ? I suppose the "Equip" action is negated but I'd like to know for sure.
What would happen if I had another attachment card in my hand that my Shugenja could legally attach but I didn't want to pay for, such as a very expensive Spell ? Would I be compelled to attach it if I can afford it ?
Thanks for your wise help.
A: The personality targeted by the equip action is targeted as a cost, which Misdirection is unable to alter, as it is only able to change the targeting of effects. Chris Fuchs, "Eastern Hub Port, Equipping and Misdirection", 17 Sep 2007 - Q: 1.If I have a copy of Brothers in Arms in my discard pile (either the Experienced or the non-exp.) and I attach a non-exp to one of my Samurai, would I be able to ignore the Brother in the discard pile and fetch one in my deck?
2.If so, would I (according to the Search rules be unable to: a.Use their reaction again? b.Search my discard pile for a Brother?
Thanks.

"Reaction: After this card enters play from your hand: Search your Fate discard pile, then deck, for a Brothers in Arms. Show it. Put it in your hand."
A: You are not given an option to "fail to find" a card when Searching. If you can obviously find a Brothers in Arms in your Discard Pile, you have to take it. You may not ignore it in order to Search and Shuffle your Fate Deck. Martin Lund, "Brothers in Arms", 24 Jul 2007
