Rules Q&A
- Q: Does the use of Goju Kumoru's open ability count to the requirement on Toshigoku's Blade that I declare an attack phase? By my understanding ambush type effects like Kumoru create an attack phase. There are 2 scenarios I'd like clarified:
If Kumoru has the Blade attached, uses his ability and returns home from the battle unbowed does he have to be assigned in the normal attack phase?
If the Blade is on another personality and I use Kumoru's ability do I have to assign the personality with the Blade in the normal attack phase?
Thanks!
A: Goju Kumoru does not create an Attack Phase.
As described under Battles: Most battles will happen as part of an Attack Phase, but some effects create battles separately.
If you look at the various printings of Ambush, you'll note that the last one that created an Attack Phase was that for Lotus Edition; it stopped creating an Attack Phase with Samurai Edition. Are the first and second effects independent of each other or do I need a target in order to declare the action?
A: You have to meet the required targeting to declare the action. Jon Palmer, "Toshigoku's Blade", 5 Jan 2015
