Rules Q&A
- Q: So my Scorpion Freind and I were playing a game, and we ran into a situation with these two cards, I had a Shugenja with the 'burning spirit' and it sais that that personality may not issue challanges, and 'Soshuro Saigyo' sais that the personality challenges him, does this mean that his action may not target my shugenja in this case?
We looked at the compryhensive rules and it seems like the perspective rule would say that he can force my personality to challenge as it is from his card and not mine, also it feels like 'Burning Spirit' is specifacly worded this way to only prevent me from making use of it in a dueling deck so the spirit of the card would lend to the idea that 'Saigyo' is not restricted by it.
A: The perspective of the card is clear: "he may not issue challenges" - it refers purely to the Personality, not one of the players.
If a Personality who has had cast Burning Spirit upon him is targeted by Shosuro Saigyo's action, the challenge does not happen. Alex Jones, "Saigyo and Burning Spirit", 13 May 2015
