- Battle: Target a non-Ring card in another player's discard pile. If the card was discarded by a Strike First this turn, put it in your hand, and you may target your Scout and discard a card to search your deck for a Show No Mercy, show it, and put it in your hand; otherwise, remove the first target from the game. Rules Q&A
- Q: viewtopic.php?f=59&t=113486
The answer to this is the Legacy ruling isn't applied here. That ruling is very specifically referring to Focused cards, from half a decade ago, in a different ruleset. It has the same relevance as anything that refers to returning home.
Also I'd further question cards that were never in my hand. What if I discard a card using Doji Bukita (whatever the 20F version is) that allows me to play the card from the discard. Am I supposed to track which cards in my discard were in my hand?
What if I pick up an opponents attachment from Press the Advantage? It was in my opponents hand, discarded, then picked up into my hand. If I now discard it, it enters my opponents discard pile. He then attaches it to a guy. Something kills it, I use Diligent Care. Did we have to track the card's existence through all that?
A: So would you prefer that I make a new ruling that "return" means the same thing it means in English?
If you're running Diligent Care, you may need to track any cards that enter play without having been in your hand. The situations that result in this are edge cases and I'm not going to go against plain language to support such an edge case. If Diligent Care said "attachments go to your hand" instead of "attachments return to your hand", we wouldn't be having this discussion. Jon Palmer, "Diligent Care and my opponent's attachments", 1 May 2015 - Q: I have a simple question about this card wording:
Is otherwise part referring only to "targeted by Strike First" condition or it also checks if I have searched deck for Show No Mercy?
For example, I use Strike First and discard, lets say Spearman, from my opponent hand. I search deck for Press the Advantage and take additional action to play it. I target mentioned Spearman and put it in my hand, buy I don't want to discard a card to search Show No Mercy (lets say I have good hand or I already used all 3 SNM earlier), Nnw the question is Spearman in my hand removed from the game, as I didn't do it?
A: The only contingent is if the card was discarded by Strike First. As long as it was, the "otherwise" won't happen; it will not be removed from the game if you don't search for a Show No Mercy. Brook Cunningham, "Press the Advantage", 16 Nov 2014
