Rules Q&A
- Q: The card Strength Remains says that the opponent must focus at least once from their hand, and it has been ruled that the opponent may focus from top of their deck first.
Suppose the following situation occurs:
I play strength remains, targeting my 1C courtier, and my opponent;s 3C samurai. My opponent chooses to focus from the top of his deck first, I then strike. Is my opponent required, in that case, to play a focus card from hand? I would suspect not, as the duel is ended and he is no longer "able". If so, does he have to substitute from hand for his top card, or add another from his hand?
A: He is not required to do anything additional in this case. You have pre-empted the effect of Strength Remains by choosing to strike. Jon Palmer, "Strength Remains", 24 Sep 2014 - Q: Both Swan Technique and Strength Remains stipulate in their effects that the enemy personality "must focus ... at least once, if able."
If both effects are in play, must the enemy personality focus at least once, or at least twice?
A: If you focus once, you satisfy the condition set by both cards. Jon Palmer, "Swan Technique + Strength Remains", 6 Sep 2014 - Q: [strength remains] so question, strength remains says "you minimum fate deck size is increased by 2", is that for each copy of this card?
A: Marcus is correct. Like most traits, it's cumulative. Brook Cunningham, "Sun and Moon #rules-questions", 28 Sep 2023
