Rules Q&A
- Q: viewtopic.php?f=59&t=111091 Relentless was ruled like this, which is ok I can follow this: You must be able to show that you will be able to target your opposed card (at the current battlefield) when you announce Relentless; if you cannot, you may not announce the action.
viewtopic.php?f=59&t=111044 However when I have a lone defender without follower at a battlefield, I should not be able to announce A Good Death, since I am not able to show that I will be able to target a personality to give it +2F and Resilient. Because the target is choosen AFTER my lone defender died, I will never be able to target anyone with this action since nobody it there after my defender died. So according to the Relentless ruling I should not be allowed to announce this action at all, if I only have a lone defender.
A: The rules don't support a level of inference of "I know my Personality will be dead", which is why A Good Death may be played in this case, and Relentless may not. Jon Palmer, "Relentless and A Good Death - Rulings", 5 Jan 2015 - Q: Can you use Relentless as an unopposed force bonus? (or penalty if you want to) The rationale is that since there is no 'target' or conditional statement on the second sentence, that it can be played as an unopposed force bonus.
A: No.
You must be able to show that you will be able to target your opposed card (at the current battlefield) when you announce Relentless; if you cannot, you may not announce the action. Alex Jones, "Relentless as an unopposed force bonus", 4 Dec 2014 - Q: 4.) Relentless: Battle: Straighten your target opposed card. Give a target Follower or Personality +1F or -1F.
can this be used on a personality who already is straightened? if so why?
A: Yes. Effects can always fail, as long as their required targeting is met. Ben Higgins, "More Questions", 12 Aug 2014
