Rules Q&A
- Q: An interaction that was quite clear to me before Twenty Festivals' rules change was: my A New Alliance vs. my opponent's Final Sacrifice. My opponent had to play it before I chose my two targets, then I had to select his Yojimbo as one of them. In the end, I could hit my most desired target, but not the second most.
However, I'm not sure to have understood how it works under Twenty Festivals' rules: 1) as above (I hope) 2) Final Sacrifice doesn't work at all because targets have already been chosen (unlikely) 3) I have to announce my two choices of targets, then my opponent plays Final Sacrifice and can redirect any one of my choices (weird but hard to exclude from the texts)

A New Alliance Political Open: The abilities on two target Dynasty or Fate cards (in play) cannot be used.
Final Sacrifice Interrupt: Target your Yojimbo. The action must target him, if legal.
New rules for Interrupts 3. In the action sequence, required targeting is now chosen after costs are paid but before Interrupts are taken, meaning that players of Interrupts know what an action will target beforehand. Interrupts that say things like “If the action targets a Samurai” refer to this pre-choice of targets. Effects that trigger from targeting, such as “before” or “after” targeting, still trigger when the targeting actually happens in the action’s resolution. Optional targeting (“may target”) is still chosen and carried out in the action’s resolution entirely.
A: Option 3 is now the correct outcome. Alex Jones, "A New Alliance vs. Final Sacrifice", 23 Mar 2015 - Q: Based on your explanation of the card Again!, would it be safe to assume that the ability copied by Inspired leadership not also work noting that it also took the tag from A New alliance. After all, "his weapons" on your explanation is still like "the abilities on two target fate/dynasty cards cannot be used" pertaining directly to the abilities on the card, and not the card itself.
Inspired Leadership Invest , or if the first target is a Tactician: Take an additional action (after this one resolves). Battle: Target your Personality and another Personality. Give your Personality +1F and he copies an ability on the second target which does not copy abilities.
A New Alliance A New Alliance Invest : Draw a card. (Increase the Gold Cost by the Invest cost to get the effect, once.) Political Open: The abilities on two target Dynasty or Fate cards (in play) cannot be used.
(if im not perfectly clear, I mean to say ask that would the abilities now also inherit the "cannot be used this turn" tag given by the A new alliance despite the fact they gain these said abilities. In short, would the "cannot be used this turn" tag on them be carried over to any card that copies them during the turn its played.
Im curious since we had that particular situation today.
PS: I do think there is something definitely hard to grasp on the working of the card Again!. It does say his weapons, and it does seem to pertain to the personality and not to the weapons themselves.
A: A New Alliance does not add a "this ability may not be used" sentence to the end of the ability it affects. If you copy the ability, the new ability (which is new, otherwise Once Per Turn would apply to it) will not be stopped by A New Alliance. Jon Palmer, "A new alliance + created abilities (ie come one at a time ) follow up", 5 Mar 2015 - Q: Refering to this viewtopic.php?f=59&t=112431#p1455461.
I am sorry, but I do not understand the reasoning behind this answer. Simply because there was no reasoning given.
My logics tells me that A New Alliance does not shut down abilities CURRENTLY present on the card. It says directly "you know, boy, those 2 cards you can consider blank for the rest of the turn". It does not say "remove abilities currently printed on them".
Can I get a more precise explanation?
A: I was extending from this ruling on Again! Alex Jones, "A new alliance + created abilities (ie come one at a time )", 15 Feb 2015 - Q: A New Alliance Invest : Draw a card. (Increase the Gold Cost by the Invest cost to get the effect, once.) Political Open: The abilities on two target Dynasty or Fate cards (in play) cannot be used.
Come One at a Time While there is exactly one defending Personality here, he has the ability, "Repeatable Battle: Challenge a target enemy Personality. Destroy the loser" and each player has the ability, "Repeatable Battle: Move home your target attacking Personality. Bow him as he moves." Battle: Destroy a Terrain (if able). Put this Terrain into play. Take an additional action granted by it.
Does new alliance prevent the use of created abilities, even those created after its use?
A: A New Alliance only affects abilities that are on the card at the time it (ie, A New Alliance) is played. Alex Jones, "A new alliance + created abilities (ie come one at a time )", 13 Feb 2015 - Q: Two questions really:
Can A new alliance target a fate card and a dynasty card, or do you have to do 2 cards of the same type?
then, re: viewtopic.php?f=59&t=111175
Is the created card a dynasty card or a fate card?
-SV
A: You may target one Dynasty and one Fate card with A New Alliance, if you wish.
Personalities are Dynasty cards. Alex Jones, "A New Alliance vs. Created Cards", 12 Dec 2014 - Q: Can the ability on A New Alliance affect created cards, such as Kichi's Shadow Badger?
A New Alliance - Political Open: The abilities on two target Dynasty or Fate cards (in play) cannot be used.
A: Yes, because unlike a card like Death of Ryoshun, A New Alliance doesn't ask you to name a card. Jon Palmer, "A New Alliance vs. Created Cards", 11 Dec 2014
