- Few families have the great honor of serving the Emperor directly, with no oath of fealty to any clan. First among them are the Otomo, stewards of the political power of the Emerald Throne. Terumoto leads in his brother's place, for his elder brother's scandal was to marry into the Susumu family.

Rules Q&A
- Q: Situation: I am playing The Majestic Temple of the Phoenix, my opponent goes first. I announce a Recruit action targeting Otomo Terumoto in my Province, with the intention of using An Honored Guest to Proclaim him. How much do I have to pay for him? The Good Faith rule seems to imply that I would only need to pay 1G, but I would like a confirmation (or an explanation if I am mistaken).
Relevant text:
An Honored Guest Interrupt: Permanently give +1PH to a target Personality the action is Recruiting. You may Proclaim him even if he does not have your Clan Alignment
The Majestic Temple of the Phoenix (Side B) Personalities you Proclaim enter play for two less Gold. Dynasty, [PAY *]: Recruit your target dead (not discarded) Phoenix Clan Personality; you may Proclaim him. Gain 1 Honor
A: You may pay 1g for the Recruit action, because you have an Otomo Terumoto in your province and a An Honoured Guest in hand, which means that your targeting choice, while not legal during the targeting step of the action, will become legal by the resolution step of the action.
Note that if you do this, you are required to then play An Honoured Guest, as described under Choice Paradoxes: If a choice (such as choosing a target, cost payment or announcing an Interrupt) requires information from another choice that has not been made yet, the player must make that second choice at the time of targeting or payment, as a prerequisite for the first choice. He or she must also stay with that choice through the rest of the action or trait in question, until the choice is officially called for. Alex Jones, "An Honored Guest + The Majestic Temple of the Phoenix", 19 Jun 2015 - Q: In the run-up to Twenty Festivals, I remember reading a rules change that said something like:
"When producing gold, you may bow holdings one at a time until there is enough gold in the pool to pay the costs of the current action."
I can't find a reference for this now.
This came up specifically when discussing Honored Sensei and Otomo Terumoto.
Can you bow 3 Honored Sensei's while Recruiting Otomo Terumoto and gain 4 honour total from the action and keep 6 gold in the pool?
A: When making a payment, you may use as many of your holdings to produce gold as you want, or produce gold from other sources - you do not have to stop when you have sufficient to make the payment.
See Action Sequence, Step B: During the Pay Costs step, if the action has a Gold cost (or if a targeting paradox makes it potentially have one), its player may produce Gold and then pay for the action using the Gold just produced and Gold in that player’s Gold pool. Any Gold produced that is not spent on the action goes to the player’s Gold pool.
However, see also this paragraph under Paying Gold Costs: EXCEPTION: Some Gold production says it may only pay for a certain cost or type of cost, with wording such as “This Holding has +2GP if this only pays for a single Follower”. The choice to have the extra GP is taken at the point of producing Gold with that source. If the extra GP is taken, that Gold is tracked separately, does not enter the pool, and cannot pay for anything else than the action (including Recruit/Equip) for which the Gold was produced; excess production disappears after the Pay Costs step of the action.
If you use 3x Honored Sensei to pay for 1x Otomo Terumoto, you produce 9g, but 6g of that is lost; after he enters play you gain 4 honour. Alex Jones, "Paying Gold Costs in 20F", 9 Apr 2015
