Rules Q&A
- Q: I understand that a Personality can either assign to an army or move into an army to be considered attacking, but if a Personality is declared as an attacker and it somehow fails, is he still considered to have attacked?
Scenario:
I play Selfless Politics on my opponent's Cavalry unit. In the Attack Phase, my opponent does not assign the Personality to attack. Upon resolving a battle at a Province, my opponent declares the Cavalry Engage movement action, and I negate it with Lookout Post.
Is the enemy Personality still considered to have attacked, and thus trigger Selfless Politics?
A: No.
Attack is defined as: To assign to, move to, or enter play in an attacking army.
If your Personality's movement from home into an attacking army is negated, he's not attacking. Alex Jones, "What is Considered Attacking?", 24 Jul 2015 - Q: So with a card like "Lookout Post" from twenty festivals, it has an absent interrupt with the following wording, " Negate the action if it is Engage", this would negate cavalry because the movement from it would be the action correct? But would this stop Naval? because there's no actual action from announcing Naval as an engage, or would it stop the battle action allowed because of Naval?
A: It will negate Cavalry which is a player Engage ability.
It will also negate Naval, which is also a player Engage ability. Negating Naval does not negate the Battle action that would've been taken prior to the defender's first opportunity for a battle action, as happened with cards in the past such as Reinforce the Gates and Entrenched Position; it simply negates the action that would give the attacker the opportunity to take the first Battle action.
