Rules Q&A
- Q: 2) The Great Climb states that "your cards need not bow to produce ranged attacks but may use each ranged attack action only once during this effect". Would this override the requirement to bow a shugenja for a ranged attack spell such as Cascading Fire?
A: Yes. Jeff Alexander, "post for 7 November 2002", 8 Nov 2002 - Q: If so, would the shugenja be able to cast each effect of Cascading Fire once, generating a ranged 6, two ranged 3 and 6 ranged 1 attacks?
A: Yes. Jeff Alexander, "post for 7 November 2002", 8 Nov 2002 - Q: Just a question: What is the real wording of Cascading Fire? I don't have the card right now, but when I consulted two search engines, they showed different results.
A. [...]
B. Elemental Battle:Bow this Shugenja for a Ranged 6 Attack. Elemental Battle: Bow this Shugenja for two consecutive Ranged 3 Attacks that cannot be combined. Elemental Battle: Bow this Shugenja for six consecutive Ranged 1 Attacks that cannot be combined.
A: That one. Jeff Alexander, "post for 2 October 2002", 3 Oct 2002 - Q: Would Ambush Strategist give a force bonus to a spell producing a ranged attack? EG: Cascading Fire...
A: "Effects that try to change a value that a card does not normally possess fail -- the value will always be 0." [p. 32]
Ambush Strategist tries to give a Force bonus to the Spell, since that's where the Ranged Attack is, and it fails. Jeff Alexander, "post for 13 August 2002", 14 Aug 2002 - Q: If someone uses Cascading Fire for its multiple attacks ability, and someone uses a canceling action (Towers of the Asako, Flee the Darkness, etc.), is the entire action canceled, and no further ranged attacks may be made, or is just the one ranged attack canceled?
A: You cannot "cancel" just one effect of an action. The word for that is "negate". Any relatively recent card that uses the word "cancel" will stop Cascading Fire entirely. Jeff Alexander, "post for 12 June 2002", 13 Jun 2002 - Q: When can I react to a Cascading Fire death with Be Prepared to Dig 2 Graves? For example, opponent uses Cascading Fire for 2 ranged 3 attacks. Suppose the CF kills a personality with the first shot. Can I react to that death with Be Prepared right away, or do I have to wait until the other RA is used and then react?
A: It would need to be done right away if you wanted to react to that destruction. Jeff Alexander, "post for 6 May 2002", 7 May 2002 - Q: Got a question here. It's probably no, but going to ask anyway. Cascading Fire and The Fire from Within. When bowing for the two consecutive ranged attacks. And Arrow Knows The Way is played along with the ranged attacks, can both of the two consecutive ranged attacks target personalities with followers attached?
A: No. Only one. But it can be any of them. Jeff Alexander, "post for 21 March 2002", 22 Mar 2002 - Q: Plus I know that Jade Bow will recieve the force bonus from Ambush Strategist, and in turn the personality it is attached to. But what about spells with ranged attacks that are attached to the personality. Like Cascading Fire. First will it recieve the force bonus because it's a spell, and will the personality recieve the force bonus?
A: That's one for the Rules Team. Jeff Alexander, "post for 21 January 2002", 22 Jan 2002 - Q: 9.) Ranged attacks on Cascading Fire may not be combined - but can I boost them with Arrows From The Woods?
A: Yes. That is not combining. Jeff Alexander, "post for 18 December 2001", 19 Dec 2001
