Rules Q&A
- Q: I am a Crane player with Hakuseki Sensei attacking a Spider player. If I target his Daigotsu Atsushi with You Walk With Evil, he bows after he dishonors so I do not gain the 1 Honor from my Sensei, correct?
You Walk With Evil Battle: If a target Samurai's army contains any Shadowlands cards, bow and dishonor him, and permanently give him Shadowlands
Hakuseki Sensei Your Stronghold has no abilities. Your Magistrates have +1F while opposing any dishonorable Personalities. After each time your Battle action bows or destroys a dishonorable Personality, gain 1 Honor.
A: He becomes dishonorable after he bows, so you do not gain the 1 Honor from your Sensei. Alex Jones, "You Walk With Evil + Hakuseki Sensei", 20 Jul 2015 - Q: Does Okura is Released destruction effect REPLACE the bow effect normally caused by the Fear action?
If you target someone dishonourable with a Fear and play Okura, will Hakuseki Sensei trigger once, twice, or not at all?
A: Okura is Released creates an indefinite conditional effect, so that after each time a Fear effect from the original action bows a card, that card is destroyed. If the card didn't bow - eg because it was already bowed - no destruction effect is created.
Hakuseki Sensei will give you 1 honour when your Fear effect bows a dishonourable Personality, and another 1 honour when the Personality is destroyed. Alex Jones, "Hakuseki Sensei + Okura is Released", 9 Mar 2015 - Q: In Haku Sensei honor gain trait there is no distinction between your and opponent Personalities. While it's effect on enemies is rather clear I have a question about triggering it on my own Personalities.
It's clear that Hakuseki Sensei can affect your own Personalities (whether it was DT intention or not), but I am not sure what "each time Battle action bows...", does it include cost of action or only refers to effects? For Example: I I have dishonorable Daidoji Kinta in battle and use his ability to shoot an enemy does Sensei trait trigger?
And, if it does, is Kinta rehonored or I gain 1 honor? According to CR I can never rehonor Personality with Hakuseki Sensei trait - it does not target my Personalities nor, of course, come from their textbox, but it never hurts to ask.
A: Yes, if you bow or destroy your own dishonorable Personalities, you will gain the 1 honor from Hakuseki Sensei. It will trigger even if the bowing is due to a cost. This will always give you the 1 honor, rather than rehonoring the Personality. Jon Palmer, "Hakuseki Sensei affectiong your own Personalities", 5 Mar 2015 - Q: does Hakuseki Sensei remove the traits on Embassy of the Crane?
A: Abilities =/= traits. Abilities are only things that start with a boldface action designator, such as Open, Battle, Response, etc. Brook Cunningham, "Sun and Moon #rules-questions", 6 Nov 2023
