Rulings
- Erratum: Reads, “Castle Walls Castle If you are the Defender and have only one province, your Personalities and Followers have +2F. Bow this card: Produce 2 Gold, or 3 Gold if another Castle Holding is producing Gold for the same cost.” [MRP, Samurai Edition, 25 July 2007] Comprehensive Rules, Samurai Edition, with specific card rulings, final version, May 2009, p. 127
Rules Q&A
- Q: Is Razor of the Dawn Castle a Castle?
i.e.: Castle Walls will produce 3 when paying with Razor of the Dawn Castle.
A: Additionally:
http://rules.l5r.com/Rulings_C#Castle_Walls: "...Produce 2 Gold, or 3 Gold if another Castle Holding is producing Gold..."
Even if Razor of the Dawn Castle had the Castle keyword, Strongholds are not Holdings. Brook Cunningham, "Is Razor of the Dawn Castle a Castle?", 22 Nov 2008 - Q: Hi,
If I have Minting House out and I bow Castle Walls with another Castle holding, does the Castle Walls make 3 gold or 4?
I'm a bit confused as to which one triggers first.
Thanks.
A: You bow the Castle Walls holding to produce gold; its production is 3g by its own text. The Minting House then triggers, and increases the Castle Walls' production to 4g. Alex Jones, "Minting House + Castle Walls", 2 Jul 2008 - Q: Hi, This came up today in a tournament and I was wondering if you could help:
I have Daidoji Gempachi along with a 0 force 3 personal honor artisan and Doji Domotai XP3. In addition, I have a Castle Walls in play with only one province remaining. My opponent has an 8 Force unit opposing my army.
If I use Gempachi's ability to boost the force of the Artisan, do any or all of these traits stack? If not, which ones would? Relevant text is below.
Daidoji Gempachi Reaction: After Cavalry Maneuvers: Raise Gempachi's Force, and the Force of another target Personality in his army, to the Force of a target card opposing them
Doji Domotai Your defending Crane Clan Personalities at Domotai's location have a Force bonus equal to their Personal Honor.
Castle Walls If you are the Defender and have only one Province, your Personalities and Followers have +2F.
Thanks for any help
A: Include all current bonuses in the raised stat. Do not reapply any bonuses that are already figured into the raised stat. Zen Faulkes, "Gempachi and Force bonuses", 5 Aug 2007 - Q: If two Castle Walls are bowed for a single card payment, how much gold is produced?
(I now realise the answer might depend on a very subtle wording difference; I cannot locate a real card, but l5rsearch gives the Castle Walls text as "if another Castle holding produced...", while the Samurai preview file I have from daigotsu.com says "is producing")
A: That's not really a rules question, but more of a printing / card release question.
I'll tell you this much, the Lotus-era printing would technically make 5 gold for two Castle Walls. I have it on pretty good authority that the Samurai-era printed should make 6. Martin Lund, "Multiple Castle Walls producing gold", 19 Jul 2007
