Rules Q&A
- Q: This was brought up to me during a game that you made this ruling which I would like clarification on.
If I have a bowed personality, and that's it...it was ruled that dense jungle cannot enter play.
However, Dense Jungle's wording is this:
1) Destroy a Terrain (if able). So...first action effect is to destroy a terrain if possible.
2) Put this Terrain into play. So...it is now already in play...
3) Starting with you, each player targets and bows one of his unbowed Personalities at this battlefield. Targetting begins, card effects occur, terrain is already in place when this begins.
There are no true "costs" anymore. If the intent is to have this only enter play if you have an unbowed target to bow then could you reword it on Oracle please?
Because as of right now you, it is being suggested that many things can now occur or not occur due to the ruling. For instance, fear effects target and bow an unbowed personality or follower. So...let's say I have a bowed person and they attempt to fear it...nope...they can't target him because he cannot be bowed and thus is not a legal target.
Just sayin...wording is crucial. If I don't have an unbowed person then the effect moves on to the next player...
A: You're ignoring the Good Faith Rule: To legally announce an action, a player must be able to: ... 2. Meet any targeting of the action that is not optional, delayed, or done by another player, including targeting in Ranged and Melee Attacks and Fear effects. ...
The action requires you to target your unbowed Personality, and this targeting is neither optional, delayed or done by another player. Thus, you must be able to target your unbowed Personality at the current battlefield in order to announce Dense Jungle.
In constrast, there is no requirement in the Good Faith Rule that to legally announce an action, its effects must be able to happen. Alex Jones, "Dense Jungle Rules Clarification", 7 Sep 2015 - Q: Greetings and salutations, rulesmeisters!
Dense Jungle After this Terrain leaves play, straighten the Personalities it bowed. Battle: Destroy a Terrain (if able). Put this Terrain into play. Starting with you, each player targets and bows one of his unbowed Personalities at this battlefield.
Simply put, if I have presence at a battlefield, but all my personalities are bowed, can I play this terrain to destroy a terrain and force my opponent to bow a personality?
Thanks!
A: Your unbowed Personality is a required target of the action, so you cannot play Dense Jungle if you have no unbowed Personalities at the current battlefield.
