Rules Q&A
- Q: Paneki's Disgrace relevant ability: Battle:You may discard a card from the current battlefield's province. Bow a target enemy card. Destroy it if it has no attachments, etc. etc.
Central Castle Text Reaction: After the resolution of an action that one of your personalities performed during battle for which you discarded a card due to its costs or effects: Draw a card.
So, do I get to draw a card with Central Castle if I discard something with Paneki's Disgrace? Or does Central Castle's ability referes only to Fate cards for some reason? Thanks!
A: See Glossary, Discard: As a verb "discard" means: 1. By itself, referring to a Fate card: To remove a card from one's hand and put it in the discard pile. 2. By itself, referring to a Dynasty card: To remove a card from one's Province and put it in the discard pile. 3. A card may also be discarded from other areas than the hand or Provinces, going to the discard pile, but this must be stated explicitly. See Areas of the Game. By default, the phrase "discard a card" has meaning 1, referring to discarding a Fate card from hand.
Thus, since Central Castle does not specify what sort of card is being discarded, it only covers the default of discarding a Fate card from your hand. Alex Jones, "Paneki's Disgrace and Central Castle", 11 Nov 2010 - Q: I tried looking over the rules and did a quick search but didn't see anything. I have a couple of questions. I also want to be clear that I enjoy having fun with L5R as well as any card game and my intentions are not to be offensive or crude.
#1: Are there any restrictions as to what can be used to represent tokens in a tourney? For example, would I be able to print a few of the following and use them in actual koteis and tourneys?

#2: Are there any restrictions against using cards that have been drawn on in tournaments? Could I take a card like Sneak Attack and draw my own art over the existing art and still be able to play it legally in tourneys? Could I take a rubber stamp that says "Neutered" and stamp the Central Castle with it and still have it be tourney legal? Can I draw the phrase "Son of Jor-El, Kneel Before Me!" over the artwork on Unfamiliar Ground and still have it be tourney legal?
Again, I'm not trying to insult anyone or disrespect any artists out there, but I do try to get as much fun out of my CCGs as I can and I do enjoy drawing. BTW, I didn't come up with the follower token idea, however I do love the movie.
A: Questions about Tournament Floor Rules should be asked here, please.
This forum is just for the Rules of the CCG, as noted here. Brook Cunningham, "Questions about Tourney Floor Rules", 8 Apr 2010 - Q: Mujina Gang After this card enters play: Lose 3 Honor and discard a card in this unit.
Before the change to Central Castle goes through, if I obfuscate a Mujina gang into battle (or attach it in battle some other way) does this count as discarding a card for the purposes of that stronghold?
A: No. This discarding is an effect of Mujina Gang's trait, not an action (the trigger for Central Castle). Brook Cunningham, "Mujina Gang vs", 1 Apr 2010 - Q: I am playing a battle with an unbowed Central Castle as my stronghold and then my personality is challenged to a duel. I focus once from my focus pool, then strike. As my focused card is discarded, can I react with Central Castle and draw a card(?)
A: No. The linked ruling was corrected; the discard is a rulebook effect. This has been extensively clarified in the rules wiki today. Zen Faulkes, "Central Castle and duels", 27 Dec 2009 - Q: If my opponent plays Burned Village at a battle at one of my provinces, is it I or he that is discarding the cards? If I am playing Central Castle, can I draw a card using its reaction?
Burned Village Terrain Battle: Before this battle's resolution, discard all cards in or attached to this battlefield's province.
Central Castle Reaction: After the resolution of an action during battle for which you discarded a card due to its costs or effects: Draw a card.
A: No, you may not react to Burned Village's action with Central Castle.

The first sentence of Loïc's answer here explains what "discarding" means on Central Castle, and why Burned Village's discarding wouldn't apply. Brook Cunningham, "Central Castle + Burned Village", 18 Nov 2009
