Rules Q&A
- Q: Wouldn't it fall under 0.1. though? Similar to how targeting a unit is the same as targeting the Personality in the case of Meditating Mind, are not actions from a unit the same as actions from the Personality?
A: No. "From" is specific to individual cards. Also, the unit targeting equivalence thing has long been confusing, and we got rid of it. Nothing in ShE should target whole units anymore; it will explicitly target just the Personality and then affect the unit as appropriate. Note the final un-white-bugged version of Meditating Mind fixed this relic of unit targeting that was accidentally left in because Onyx wasn't fully Rules-edited before the sale to FFG. Brook Cunningham, "Sun and Moon #rules-questions", 22 Mar 2025 - Q: Can meditating mind stop actions taken as "battle" if they are "Battle/Engage" or only if it is taken as an engage action?
A: The latter. CR pg. 20, second paragraph: "An ability with two designators, such as “Battle/Open:”, can be used at either time. The ability always has both designators, but the action taken using it only has the designator appropriate to the Action Round when it is used." Brook Cunningham, "Sun and Moon #rules-questions", 8 Aug 2024 - Q: Question on how these cards interact as the meditating mind has to target Churo's unit but not him directly. I don't this Churo can interrupt here as does not target him directly but his unit but wanted to confirm just in case.
A: Targeting a unit is synonymous with targeting its Personality directly. Churo can negate MM's Battle action. Brook Cunningham, "Sun and Moon #rules-questions", 26 Apr 2024 - Q: rules question. If you oblivious scout and you opponent then used meditating mind, can they only target the scout or because they are targeting the scout they can also target 2 other attachments?
A: Targeting a unit is equivalent to targeting its Personality; it is not equivalent to targeting each individual card in the unit. Thus, MM's Battle action is not legal whle Ob Scout's effect is active.
(Replying to a player: "Now, can I negate Oblivious' engage with MM's absent interrupt?") Sure, why not? I will say, it's not worded super-great, but the implication is that the action it is Interrupting is the Engage or Event action that it's negating. MM could use a double-coat of tech errata for clarity. Brook Cunningham, "Onyx Lives #rules-questions", 20 Apr 2024
