Rules Q&A

• Q: I have a query about these two cards interacting. spesifically can they as one says give them shadowlands and one says will not gain. Can Shaoru be killed and then still be targeted and brought back by Shokansuru? additionally if they are killed and brought back are they broght back into the home or brought back into the same location as shokansuro?
A: 1. Yes, Shokansuru can bring back Shaoru. The gaining of Shadowlands will just fail because of his trait. 2. The default area for Recruiting is Home or, if there is a current battle, the current battlefield.
(Replying to a player: "so for question one he would gain the +2f -1C nonhuman and oni but not the shadowlands?") Yes Brook Cunningham, "Onyx Lives #rules-questions", 13 May 2024
• Q: Return to serve for "Response" actions, if its printed on a personality does he have to be at the battlefield to trigger the ability? Eg. Shokansuru
A: yes, Ivory rules require the source of the action be present at a battle unless it has the "Home" keyword (can be used during battle even if the source is at home, as long as you otherwise have presence), "Remote" (can be used from any location including Home, as long as you otherwise have presence), or the "Absent" keyword (can be used during battle even if you have no presence at the current battle) Jeff Williamson, "Onyx Lives #rules-questions", 20 Sep 2023
