Rules Q&A
- Q: Hi @Brook Cunningham, pursuant to what we were talking about before, so people can see this: Does the action need to have a Fear effect to use the rulebook Courage Interrupt? And more specifically, if I'm playing with Masatari Sensei, could ANY action be Interrupted with the Courage ability, allowing me to bring Levied Refugees into play once per turn if they're in my discard?
A: Technically, yes. The Courage Interrupt is worded in such a way you can Interrupt any action with it (that I've tried to avoid in Onyx-forward Interrupt and Response wordings, now that I'm getting more of a handle on what was essentially a new mechanic designed and maintained by committee before), even ones that don't have a Fear effect in them to modify. Brook Cunningham, "Onyx Lives #rules-questions", 5 May 2024 - Q: Think Levied Refugees and you'll get an idea
A: Oh, you thought you could maybe make a Fear 0 in the absence of a Follower? Yeah, nah. 🙂 Brook Cunningham, "Onyx Lives #rules-questions", 5 May 2024 - Q: Follow-up question to Levied Refugees. If you activate its trait and it's now considered "banished for effects", is it also still considered to be in your hand? I ask because Equip action targets an attachment in your hand.
A: That "considered banished" isn't an ongoing thing; banished is a verb in this sense, not an adjective. It's for effects that check, "did something get banished"? And they will see a "yes". But it is in your hand, not outside the game. Brook Cunningham, "Sun and Moon #rules-questions", 9 Dec 2023 - Q: when you use levied refugees for a legacy action does it stay in your hand face up? same question for masatari sensei w
A: it is intended to work specifically with Masatari Sensei, so the second half is yes also, yes, by its text it is "free" to use with Legacy Jeff Williamson, "Sun and Moon #rules-questions", 9 Dec 2023 - Q: Is Courage repeatable? If yes, then I see the infinite buff, if not, then you can't use the sensei's "banish for Courage" on the same turn that you discarded Levied Refugees from your hand Since, as I understand it, once-per-turn abilities only "reset" if the card becomes "facedown" (in this case, back I'm your hand) (That, or my distracted brain is thinking of a different card game)
A: (Replying to a player: "I'd like to apologise for this misinformation and any cofusion it may have added, I just remembered it was from a rules clarification on a card in the LCG, don't think the same rules apply in the CCG") The CCG has the same rules about card memory; it must be both facedown and out-of-play, then it will "forget" anything about itself (ongoing effects, uses of abilities, etc).
