Rules Q&A
- Q: @Brook Cunningham problem on the new wording on Oblivious Scout (here https://jlsumerlin.wixsite.com/onyx-lives--project/post/update-post-gencon-wrap-up-errata-and-what-s-next) From what I can see, if my opponent plays Overwhelmed, I cannot target my cards with Overwhelmed unless he's previously targetted or removed the scout Oblivious now reads 'other players battle actions may not target your other cards'. It's still my opponent's action targetting my cards even though I'm doing the targetting, correct?
A: I can't remember how it might have been different before, but this is correct, and it seems in line with its general intent.
I'm sick of this card. Nobody plays it except to exploit it. I'm just going to ban it Brook Cunningham and Jeremy Sumerlin, "Onyx Lives #rules-questions", 1 Dec 2024 - Q: Oblivious scout is active. Can I use this as the first action, or no?
A: Nope. Brook Cunningham, "Sun and Moon #rules-questions", 9 Aug 2024 - Q: Hello everyone.
I have a few questions regarding oblivious scout. can you use Rout to target a unit equipped with oblivious scout? Does targeting a unit counts as targeting a follower? What does it mean by ‘The enemy leader targets this follower with a battle action’? Is the enemy leader the opposing player or is it the opposing personality?
Thanks!
A: Shattered Empire printing of Rout does not target the unit, it explicitly targets the Personality. So, no, you can't play Rout as it doesn't target the Scout. And the "leader" refers to players; the Attacker or Defender; "enemy" of those 2 would be the one who is not you you (in a 2 player game). Brook Cunningham, "Onyx Lives #rules-questions", 8 Jul 2024 - Q: rules question. If you oblivious scout and you opponent then used meditating mind, can they only target the scout or because they are targeting the scout they can also target 2 other attachments?
A: Targeting a unit is equivalent to targeting its Personality; it is not equivalent to targeting each individual card in the unit. Thus, MM's Battle action is not legal whle Ob Scout's effect is active.
(Replying to a player: "Now, can I negate Oblivious' engage with MM's absent interrupt?") Sure, why not? I will say, it's not worded super-great, but the implication is that the action it is Interrupting is the Engage or Event action that it's negating. MM could use a double-coat of tech errata for clarity. Brook Cunningham, "Onyx Lives #rules-questions", 20 Apr 2024
