Rules Q&A
- Q: Call the Inferno used to give force to the Shugenja as a trait, but then it got nerfed and you have to bow it (and lose the range attack) to get the force bonus.
Tremors required the shugenja to be both earth and fire to give the force bonus and there are not tons of shugenja who fulfill that condition The new Yami of the Void also gives force bonus only by attaching but it is also a weapon, so it is not limited to shugenja. Other spells that increase the shugenja's force require to consume a battle action to use the spell's ability
A: (Only Shugenja can attach Spells.)
(Replying to a player: "Oh, I see. Still since it's also a weapon I thought it allowed you to bypass that restriction") Nope; it's still always also a Spell.
no, it just prevents the shugenja from attaching other weapons Brook Cunningham and Jeff Williamson, "Onyx Lives #rules-questions", 20 Jun 2025 - Q: Let's say I have two copies of "City of Night" in play, then in my battle i first use "Call the Inferno", then I use one of my "City of Night" to straighten that spell and later I use "Call the Inferno" a second time... now, could I use my second copy of "City of Night" to straighten "Call the Inferno" again so I would be able to use that spell for a third time in the same battle?
A: No. City explicitly only gives a "second" use. Brook Cunningham, "Sun and Moon #rules-questions", 27 Mar 2024 - Q: So fire shugenja has call the Inferno and burn the mind. Fire shugenja cast call the Inferno. Combines with burn the mind. Ra 8. Target personality with followers. Kill.
A: Not legal. Burn must be able to also legally target. Brook Cunningham, "Sun and Moon #rules-questions", 13 Oct 2023 - Q: So, if I'm reading it right then, Call the Inferno could target a Personality with Followers, thus bypassing that shielding, but Burn the Mind couldn't, so they wouldn't stack in that situation for BtM's bow
But they could stack on a Personality without Followers as usual, and BtM would bow it
A: Yeah, the Rules are a little unclear on this. They say the combining Interrupt adds its strength (with any modifications). Now, that could be interpreted as modifications just to the strength, or all modifications to the attack effect. I believe it means and has been ruled as the latter, so it would bow instead of destroying. Brook Cunningham, "Sun and Moon #rules-questions", 12 Oct 2023
