Rules Q&A
- Q: Regarding this: viewtopic.php?f=59&t=75713
If the target of the Chuda Hankyu is unbowed, can he change the target to a personality at a diferent location then the one of the original target?
A: Please be more precise in your questions. I'm assuming you mean, "If the target of a Chuda Hankyu's action is an unbowed Shugenja, can he use Turn of Fortune to change the target to a Samurai at a different location?"
They're both legal targets for Chuda Hankyu, and Turn of Fortune, being a Reaction, ignores the Rule of Location and has no requirement that the Samurai and the Monk or Shugenja need to be at the same location, so yes. Alex Jones, "Turn of Fortune and Chuda Hankyu", 11 May 2009 - Q: I'm attacking my oponents province A with a guy equiped with Chuda Hankyu and he defended on province B with a samurai and a shugenja and left a bowed shugenja at home. My question is: If I use Chuda Hankyu battle action and target the bowed shugenja at home, can he use Turn of Fortune and change the target to the samurai at the battlefield?
A: Turn of Fortune: Kiho Reaction: When an action would target one of your Samurai, target one of your unbowed Monks or Shugenja: The action targets him instead, if legal. Kiho Reaction: When an action would target one of your target unbowed Monks or Shugenja: The action targets one of your Samurai instead, if legal.
Turn of Fortune requires an unbowed Monk or Shugenja, so no. Alex Jones, "Turn of Fortune and Chuda Hankyu", 11 May 2009 - Q: If personality with naval has a Chuda Hankyu or any other item , can I use action on it as my first action ?
A: Perform:
"A Personality or Follower is performing an action if its controller is the player taking the action, and any of these things is true: * The action comes from an ability on the Personality or Follower. * The action comes from an ability on an Item or Spell in the Personality’s unit. * The Personality or Follower was targeted by targeting in the ability’s constraints block (between the two colons)."
(Emphasis added)
The action is performed by the Personality with the Item, so yes. Alex Jones, "Naval and Chuda Hankyu", 10 Jun 2008 - Q: You Die With Me: Heroic Reaction: After another player resolves a Battle action which destroyed one of your Hero Personalities: Destroy a target Follower, or Personality without Followers, in the current enemy army. Chuda Hankyu: Battle: Destroy this card and dishonor this Personality: Lose 3 Honor. Destroy a target Follower, or Personality without Followers, with a Force less than 5 at any location.
I attack and opponent defends on another province(opposed or unopposed) or he desides not to defend at all. I use Chuda Hankyu action and destroy one of his Heros (home or another battlefield). 1. Can he use reaction od You Die With Me to destroy me personality at a battlefield where I'm attacking and resolving battle actions (he got no personality there)? 2. If he would be opposed in the another battlefield - can he use reaction on You Die With Me to destroy one of my personalities there? The battlefield hasn't been resolved yet. 3. If he would be able to play Misdirection can he chose to destroy on of my own personalities at any location?
A: Neither the Rule of Presence nor the Rule of Location apply to Reactions, only Battle Actions - as noted in their text.
"Destroy a target Follower, or Personality without Followers, in the current enemy army." is very explicit. You can only target cards in the "current enemy army," - the enemy army at the Current Battlefield.
Finally, yes, he could play Misdirection to force you to kill one of your own cards at any location with Chuda Hankyu. You are actually allowed to kill your own cards with the Hankyu - it is not a Ranged Attack thus isn't restricted anywhere in the rules to only working on "enemy" cards. Martin Lund, "Chuda Hankyu & You Die With Me", 26 Feb 2008 - Q: If the action on a Chuda Hankyu does not preclude you from gaining honor via Lies, Lies, Lies, then is the same true for any action card that has an honor loss as an effect?
A: Yes. I believe that's how it's always worked, but don't have an old printing handy at the moment. Zen Faulkes, "RE: Lies, Lies, Lies and Chuda Hankyu", 10 Aug 2007 - Q: Do I gain the Honor from Lies, Lies, Lies... if I have a Chuda Hankyu in my discard pile?
A: Yes. Zen Faulkes, "Lies, Lies, Lies... + Chuda Hankyu", 10 Aug 2007 - Q: If a personality is already dishonored and they have Chuda Hankyu equipped, can I destroy the weapon and "dishonor" them again?
A: No. Everything before the colon is required to happen. Brook Cunningham, "Oracle of the Void #rules", 28 Aug 2023
