Rules Q&A
- Q: Agasha Hamanari TDWWM Hoshi Chuichi, - Chuichi flee the darkness Hamanari is still live to use is reaction, and cancel flee?
A: Yes. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 2 December 2003, Part 2", 3 Dec 2003 - Q: From the Rules archives it seems that Agasha Hamanari can cancel a Superior Tactics cause the card satisfy the rule of relevance.
A: Correct. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 12 April 2003", 12 Apr 2003 - Q: A couple of odd questions. 1. Can Agasha Hamanari react to an Avoid Fate being played? (This on my own turn & on my event)
A: Yes. Jeff Alexander, "post for 31 March 2003", 1 Apr 2003 - Q: 2. Can Agasha Hamanari cancel a Sneak Attack? (ie. is it considered to be "affecting the battle")
A: Sneak Attack affects the battle. Hamanari can cancel it. Jeff Alexander, "post for 24 March 2003", 25 Mar 2003 - Q: 2- Can Agasha Hamanari cancel a Stand Against the Waves if it is effecting everyone in his army? If yes, why? as it doesn't seem to be an action that effects the battle itself.
A: Read the card:
"When a player plays an Action card from his or her hand that targets you, your cards, or your tokens (or, if Hamanari is in a battle, that affects the battle, such as a Terrain), bow Hamanari to cancel the action."
Stand Against the Waves targets you (and your cards), and Hamanari cancels cards as soon as they're played. He can stop it. Jeff Alexander, "post for 23 September 2002", 25 Sep 2002 - Q: Agasha Hamanari can cancel Flattery, right?
A: Correct. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 10 July 2002", 11 Jul 2002 - Q: Agasha Hamanari: Reaction: When a player plays an Action card from his or her hand that targets you, your cards, or your tokens (or, if Hamanari is in a battle, that affects the battle, such as a Terrain), bow Hamanari to cancel the action. [...]
Is "affects the battle" equivalent to "targets the battle"? Specifically, let's say I'm attacking a phoenix army that has Hamanari in it, and I try to play Superior Tactics to move Hitomi Kagetora into the battle. Can Hamanari cancel this, even though it targets none of his cards and does not target the battle?
A: It does target the battle, actually, but, yes, pretty much anything that satisfies the Rule of Relevance will count as "affecting the battle", and that movement certainly does. Jeff Alexander, "post for 10 June 2002", 11 Jun 2002 - Q: Can Isawa Norikazu/Agasha Hamanari cancel Sneak Attack if they are in the battle when it is played?
A: Sure. Sneak Attack certainly affects a battle. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 19 May 2002", 20 May 2002 - Q: If someone is using Touch of Death on my Personality with an Ancestor and I use Ancestral Protection to cancel the Touch of Death, does the Ancestral Protection target their Touch of Death, thus allowing Agasha Hamanari to prevent it?
A: No. Jeff Alexander, "post for 8 May 2002", 9 May 2002 - Q: I believe that OLOA targets the card it is reacting to, it falls under targeting rule #4. Agasha Hamanari can cancel an action which targets you, your cards etc. So you should be able to cancel OLOA, right?
A: Looks like it, yes. Vaughn Derderian, "Rules for July 20th", 20 Jul 2001 - Q: Can you cancel the OLOA with Agasha Hamanari? (My guess: yes)
A: Maybe. Ask me tomorrow. Vaughn Derderian, "Rules for", 19 Jul 2001
