Rules Q&A
- Q: I am playing Unicorns on Shiro Shinjo and one of my personalities has Chukandomo attached. This personality and my Stronghold are both bowed, and there is another personality with higher Personal Honor, so my personality will die. It's my turn now, and time for Straightening Phase. Am I able to unbow my Stronghold first, so when my personality dies, I can use the reaction to attach Chukandomo to another one of my personalities? Or will death occur before I have chance to unbow my Stronghold?
A: Well, the destruction has the same timing as your Straightening, so it really doesn't matter. By the time you have an opportunity to play Reactions after the Destruction, you'd have already straightened all your other cards and your stronghold. Martin Lund, "Rules for 20 May 2004", 24 May 2004 - Q: Does PW affect Rekai's Chi of 3 *before* her focus is considered (thereby killing her and keeping the Bloodsword at +1/+1), or is it considered along with the Chukandomo focus? What if she had been targeted with Uncertainty before the duel?
A: She already has the +4 Chi from focusing Chukandomo, well before Poisoned Weapon can be resolved.
"This card immediately grants your Personality a secret chi bonus equal to it Focus value until the duel ends." (Diamond Edition Rulebook, page 89, "Challenging and Dueling") Martin Lund, "Rules for 7 April 2004", 8 Apr 2004 - Q: I have Akodo Tadenori with Chukandomo attached. My opponent reveals Imperial Quest and chooses Tadenori to go on it. On my turn If I choose to straighten Tadenori when does he become dishonored?
A: After he straightens. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 29 August 2003", 30 Aug 2003 - Q: Situation:
Kisada Shrine bowed, Hida Kosho (or other peep with YU) dishonored with Chukandomo.
Straighten fase: Straighten your Stronghold and all of your cards in play. Q: May I straight the shrine (first), destroy Kosho instead of straightening him (see chukandomo) (second) and use Kisada Shrine to return Kosho to play, bowed, in my home?
A: It really doesn't matter. Even if you straighten everything simultaneously, Kisada's Shrine is used after Kosho dies, so it would straighten and Kosho would die at the same time, then you could use the Shrine. Jeff Alexander, "post for 4 November 2002", 5 Nov 2002 - Q: 1) Since I'm the active player on my turn during my Straighten phase, can I choose to straighten my personality and after having done that, choose to resolve Chukandomo's effect, since Chukandomo doesn't specify when during my Straighten phase I have to check for it?
A: I can't believe it. Didn't this already come up? Didn't someone already try to wiggle out of this obvious drawback by reading the card while standing on their head?
No. No, you can't. Add the words "Any time" to the front of the first sentence if you need to see why. Jeff Alexander, "post for 3 September 2002", 4 Sep 2002 - Q: Chukandomo Will trigger if the personality cannot straighten?
A: No, because the Personality dies instead of straightening. [card text] Jeff Alexander, "post for 21 August 2002", 22 Aug 2002 - Q: Chukandomo Will trigger if the personality cannot straighten?
A: No, because the Personality dies instead of straightening. [card text] Jeff Alexander, "post for 14 August 2002", 15 Aug 2002 - Q: this Personality is bowed and there are any Personalities in play with more Personal Honor, destroy this Personality instead of straightening Him or her. Just to make sure I understand the definition of "during"...if say, a personality with 2 PH has it attached to him and that personality attacks and goes home bowed, and then my opponent brings in a a 3 PH guy, when my straighten phase comes up, the personality with Chukandomo is destroyed, right?
A: Right. Jeff Alexander, "post for 14 August 2002", 15 Aug 2002
