Rules Q&A
- Q: (A) personality who has an attachment and who was in a battle in which Circle of Steel was played as an action. My opponent has Shosuro Jimen at home and would like to use his Reaction to dishonor my personality after the battle. Is it legal for him to play this Reaction?
A: No. Zen Faulkes, "Shosuro Jimen and Circle of Steel", 5 Feb 2008 - Q: In reference to this unanswered question about Circle of Steel.
According to the "Terrain" part in the Glossary, since all Terrains in play are discarded immediately after battle resolution at the battlefield that just resolved, and since a Terrain's effects with a duration end if it leaves play, do these two rules imply that Circle of Steel's last effect can never be applied, because it is an effect with a duration ("until your next turn ends"), therefore it always ends a few seconds before applying ? If no, why please ?
Thanks for your explanations.
A: Any effect produced by a Terrain card that produces an effect that has a duration that explicitly extends beyond the point where the Rulebook would eliminate Terrains invokes the First Cardinal Rule in that instance.
This does not change how the Terrain functions when it it is removed from play by any other means (such as a card effect). If Circle of Steel is destroyed or removed from the game before its Delayed Effect clause is applied ("After this battle resolves ...") the Delayed Effects are never applied - just like a "normal" terrain's Delayed Effects that would normally come before the Battle Resolution aren't applied if the Terrain is destroyed before their timing window. Martin Lund, "Is Circle of Steel's last effect ever applied ?", 14 Jan 2008 - Q: I play unshakable to use unfamiliar ground from my discard pile. All the units with more than 4f bow. Then unshakable leaves play taking the unfarmiliar ground with it. All the now bowed units then straighten. Is that correct?
A: No.
Bowing is not an effect with a duration, so it does not end automatically when the terrain leaves play by the default rule as described here: viewtopic.php?f=59&t=60968
Unfamiliar Ground straightens cards if it is "destroyed." Unshakable does not destroy anything. It removes it from the game. Zen Faulkes, "Unshakable and Circle of Steel and Unfamiliar Ground", 13 Oct 2007 - Q: I use unshakable to play circle of steel from the discard pile. All the units I control get +1/+1 as long as they have an attachment. The unshakable leaves play taking the circle with it. Do the units now lose the +1/+1?
A: Yes. That's an effect with a duration, so it ends due to the terrain leaving. viewtopic.php?f=59&t=60968 Zen Faulkes, "Unshakable and Circle of Steel and Unfamiliar Ground", 13 Oct 2007 - Q: Are units able to be targeted on my next turn?
A: Yes, because that's a delayed effect. viewtopic.php?f=59&t=60558 Zen Faulkes, "Unshakable and Circle of Steel and Unfamiliar Ground", 13 Oct 2007 - Q: Quote:
firstly during my opponent's attack phrase he played circle of steel as a terrain(.) i kill Chimamire no Oni and thus triggering his reaction.
do i get to throw the -1C token on my opponent's personality if he has a weapon attached to him?
Yes. Circle of Steel comes info effect "When the battle ends." Destroying cards is part of the Resolution Segment -- battle's not over yet.
i was trying to mean after the battle resolution, during my phrase where i do all my limited and open action phrase?
A: Then such Personalities could not receive tokens. Zen Faulkes, "follow up on more question", 27 Mar 2005
