- Erratum: Reads, "Cleansing Spirit 0G 4FV Kiho Battle: Target one of your unbowed Shugenja or Monks: Attach a target discarded Item or Follower you own to one of your target Personalities, reducing its Gold Cost by the Personality’s Force until it attaches." Rules Q&A
- Q: As a follow-up: Are cards, aside from personalities, that are in a discard pile, ever considered anything but 'discarded'?
A: No, they are not. So... Brook Cunningham, "Cleansing Spirit and 'discarded'", 7 Sep 2008 - Q: As far as I can see from the rulebook, only personalities can have a different status while in a discard pile (dead). Now my question regarding Cleansing Spirit is if it can bring back Items/Followers that have been destroyed and not discarded, as its cardtext requires.
A: You're correct about only Personalities in the discard having a potentially "non-discarded" status; Cleansing Spirit can attach any Item or Follower in the discard pile, whether it arrived there by being destroyed or not. Brook Cunningham, "Cleansing Spirit and 'discarded'", 7 Sep 2008 - Q: I have gone through the search engine and had trouble identifying the answer to my question.
if I have Shugeja A attacking province A and Samurai B at province B can I resolve province B first and play cleansing spirit to attach a follower from the discard pile to samurai B. I dont see this conflict with rule of presense because the action is coming fro my hand and the effect/ result is finishing at the current battle.
Cleansing Spirit Kiho Battle: Target one of your unbowed Shugenja or Monks: Attach a target discarded Item or Follower you own to one of your target Personalities, reducing its Gold Cost by the Personality’s Force until it attaches.
thanks in advance and sorry if i missed it in the advance search "area"

A: This doesn't satisfy the Rule of Location:
"Any cards in units must be at the current battlefield to be legally targeted by a Battle action."
Both the targeted Shugenja and the targeted Samurai, since they're in play and hence in units, must be at the current battlefield. The targeted Item or Follower isn't in play, so it's not in a unit, so the Rule of Location doesn't apply to it. Alex Jones, "Cleansing spirit", 9 May 2008
