Rulings
- In a result such as "If duelist A wins, X happens to the loser," effect X is an "effect of duelist A winning" and not an "effect of the other duelist losing." It will still happen. Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 10
- Has no effect on reactions to winning or losing a duel unless those reactions specifically modify the effects of losing (e.g., Fatal Mistake). Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 10
- In a result such as "If duelist A wins, XXX happens to the loser," effect XXX is an "effect of duelist A winning" and not an "effect of the other duelist losing". It will still happen. Has no effect on reactions to winning or losing a duel unless those reactions specifically modify the effects of losing, such as Fatal Mistake. Accumulated Rulings, February 8, 2000, p. 20
Rules Q&A
- Q: if the effects listed on the action ARE the results of the duel, would the effect, "...but the opposing Personality does not die," be negated [by Concede Defeat] and the Personality dies?
A: No. If you negate "do not destroy the opposing Personality", then you're back to death being an effect of losing -- which Concede Defeat negates. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 11 December 2003, Part 3", 12 Dec 2003 - Q: I play Contested Holding. My opponent accepts, strikes, and plays Concede Defeat. I don't Die (I won the duel), but do I get the holding?
A: No (card text).
Zen Faulkes! * Crab Clan Scholar * Unaligned Deputy Rules Guy Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 11 December 2003", 11 Dec 2003 - Q: [Doji Kurohito Experienced 2] issued the duel of honor. [The opposing Personality] struck and played Concede Defeat. What happens[?]
A: Nothing. There are no stated benefits for Kurohito's duel, and all the effects of losing (i.e., death) were negated. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 26 November 2003", 27 Nov 2003 - Q: First, silly question: does Judgement of Toshiken trump (that is, render useless except for focus values, if used to focus): Another Time Kharmic Strike Concede Defeat (when played for its ability)
A: Judgement of Toshiken is played after focuses are revealed, by MRP. Another Time and Concede Defeat will still defeat it because they both resolve before then and both produce an immediate end to the duel. Judgement will re-override Kharmic's change to how the duel gets resolved. Jeff Alexander, "post for 8 February 2002", 9 Feb 2002 - Q: The rulebook says: In a standard duel, the loser dies.( DE p89). If a card gives an alternate outcome e.g "Dishonor the loser" then that effect changes the outcome for both parties to the duel. But what about "Enough Talk!" Can your oponent's personality die to "Enough Talk"?
If not, if a card intended to do something in addition to destroying the loser it would have to say "If X wins, destroy the loser, do something else". But X would still be destroyed for losing. Is this correct?
And finally, if that's true, it seems to me that Concede Defeat would not save the opponent in this duel, but would save X.
And it seems to me that the answers to these questions should shed some light on Doji Reju.
Thanks

A: "Destroy the loser" (card text). Yes. Zen Faulkes, "Not About EomE REJU xp3 but maybe relevent to it", 15 Mar 2005
