- Q: I have a shugenja with a spell and a Courier. Can I bow to cast the spell once, use the Courier to move to spell to another shugenja, then bow to cast it again? A: No. Since the Courier can only move "to another unbowed Personality", he can only be used if both Personalities are unbowed. Legend of the Five Rings FAQ, Version 3.6.2, May 1998, p. 5
Rules Q&A
- Q: The Fall of Otosan Uchi, the next expansion set is coming soon, and Mark Jelfo wrote a quick note to indicate that the preview material will begin coming out October 28th. He notes: "You will also see the return of some favorite characters in this set (KOKUJIN!), as well as some truly AWESOME Political / Courier-based cards."
I was reading the teaser for the next set and I see a strange contradicton. As this set represents the fall of the imperial capitol, where court is held, why the focus on couriers?
A: The article says "You will see some truly AWESOME Political / Courier[sic]-based cards." It would be an extrapolation to read that as saying Political actions are the set's focus. The Fall is not going to short-change any mechanical aspects of the game just because this chapter of the story features one particular faction gaining a distinct upper hand. There will still be Courtiers, Honor-producing cards, dueling cards, non-Shadowlands Personalities... Face it, a set of seventy-five oni and seventy-five "Bow an Oni to kill something" cards would be boring. Jeff Alexander, "post for 17 October 2002", 18 Oct 2002 - Q: Does Courier target the personality it's leaving?
A: No. Jeff Alexander, "post for 24 July 2002", 25 Jul 2002 - Q: Now, if the sword were unattached and reattached (something currently done only in Open, with Plans Within Plans and a Courier to avoid bowing the personalities involved), then the bonus would be re_applied_ to the new personality, and thus defeat ISotF. Correct?
A: The Celestial Sword would have to be transferred from an appropriately aligned Clan Personality, to a non-Clan Personality, then back to an in-Clan Personality for the bonus to be reapplied. The bonus exists whenever the Celestial Sword controlled by a Personality of the appropriate Clan, and there's no moment when it is *not* controlled by a Personality when you transfer an item.
