Rules Q&A
- Q: Yes and yes.
Per Setting stats to a value, when Ohba's Force is set to 0, he is given "the smallest possible appropriate penalty such that it reaches that value". In your example, Ohba has a base Force of 2 and there are 3 Poison tokens in the current enemy army so his current Force is 5 and the appropriate penalty to set it to 0 is -5F. To set a stat to zero does not mean that its value will remain zero until the turn ends, whatever new bonuses are given; it just means that the stat's value falls to zero due to an appropriate penalty.
If there is a new Poison token in the current enemy army, his trait increases his Force. Per Calculating stats, its value becomes : 2 (base Force) + 4 (trait) - 5 (penalty) = 1. The Force bonus from Crushing Strength would apply too: 2 (base Force) + 3 (trait) - 5 (penalty) + 3 (Crushing Strength) = 3.
A: I'd also like to point out that there is a FAQ entry about just this point: http://rules.l5r.com/CE_FAQ#When_stats_ ... applied.3F
