Rulings
- Can target a Personality with attached Followers. This still counts as a Ranged Attack; Reactions and traits involving Ranged Attacks apply. [Clarification, Fire & Shadow rulebook] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 49
- Can be used by any Personality with any Ranged Attack. The characteristics of that Ranged Attack are irrelevant; only those of the Arrow are used. [DW, 25 September 1996] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 49
- Clarified: may target any opposing Shadowlands card, including a Personality with Followers. Its status as a Ranged Attack is only to allow it to be affected by traits and Reactions. Text Change & Errata List, February 15, 2000, p. 6
- Q: How does Catching the Wind's Favor work against cards like Crystal Arrow, which are considered Ranged Attacks but don't have a strength? A: Like any other time you need a number that's not defined, assume the strength is zero (p. 26). Any shugenja with a Chi above zero can deflect a Crystal Arrow using that kiho. Legend of the Five Rings FAQ, Version 3.6.2, May 1998, p. 5
Rules Q&A
- Q: I know ranged attacks can target more than personalities and followers: Crystal Arrow and Jade Arrow can be used to destroy tainted items for instance.
A: As I learned a few weeks ago, it's a really bad idea to try and base Ranged Attack precedents off of Crystal/Jade Arrow. Without explicit wording (and following errata of clear intent) such as the Jade/Crystal Arrows have, assume that all Ranged Attacks follow normal targeting rules. Vaughn Derderian, "Rules for December 18th", 18 Dec 2000
