Rules Q&A
- Q: A *Moneylender* with no tokens on it is still considered a "gold-producing holding" for the purposes of cards like *Crystal Mine* and *Barren Fields*,
A: Yes. 0 Gold is still gold production for the game's purposes. Martin Lund, "Rules for 10 July 2004", 13 Jul 2004 - Q: Can I bow and destory a Quartermaster and bow a Crystal mine at the same time to produce 6 gold and a +2/+2 token on a Samurai coming into play?
A: No, you either have to bow Quartermaster to satisfy the cost of using Crystal Mine, or you have to bow it to satisfy the cost of using itself. You can't use it for both at the same time. Martin Lund, "Rules for 1 May 2004", 4 Jun 2004 - Q: For that matter, a hypothetical question: once I have access to Glassblower, I'm curious about its possible combo ability with Crystal Mine. Glassblower is a gold producing holding, thus I think I should be able to use it for the cost of Crystal Mine's ability (bow Crystal Mine and one of your other gold producing holdings to produce 6 gold).
A: Correct. Jeff Alexander, "rules for 22 March 2004", 23 Mar 2004 - Q: Simple question about Simple Huts...is it considered a "gold-producing holding" for the purposes of Crystal Mine?
A: Well, it's a Holding, and it produces Gold. That makes it a "Gold-producing Holding". And not just "for the purposes of Crystal Mine". It's a Gold-producing Holding, period. Jeff Alexander, "rules for 27 Feb. 2004", 28 Feb 2004 - Q: Can you use Barely Farm's reaction when you bow it with Crystal Mine or Simple Huts? If the answer is no, could you explain why. thanks
A: Yes. You have to use the Farm's Reaction first, then use the Mine Jeff Alexander, "rules for 11 Feb. 2004", 12 Feb 2004 - Q: Can the Reaction on Barley Farm, and the actual Barley Farm itself, be used in conjunction with a Crystal Mine to produce 7G? In other words, can I bow the Barley Farm and the Crystal Mine to produce 6G, then use the Reaction to produce the 1 extra gold?
A: No. Barley Farm is bowed by that point. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 1 December 2003, Part 2", 2 Dec 2003 - Q: "Why City of Gold? Think about it. Crystal Mine + City buys Rokku for cheap, or Kuemon for full." - this seems to be implying that you can bow City of Gold (a Region) to use the Crystal Mine's gold production ability... Crystal Mine's card text reads: "*Singular* Bow Crystal Mine and one of your Gold-producing Holdings to produce 6 Gold." Does this mean that City of Gold is a Holding as well as a Region? or what?
A: It means that Kuemon costs 7 to buy at full and Rokku costs 7 to buy at reduced cost with the in-clan discount.
6 Gold from using Crystal Mine + 1 Gold from using City of Gold = 7 Gold.
You still need to pay the cost of using Crystal Mine, however, so you need another Holding - typically Gifts and Favors. Martin Lund, "Confusion over some rules interpretations...", 23 Mar 2005 - Q: Can I use Crystal Mine together with City of Gold (no more holdings)??
A: No. If you have no other holdings, it's known that Crystal Mine cannot produce gold on its own, so it is not a legal trigger for City of Gold. City of Gold is not a holding, so can't be used to pay the additional cost of Crystal Mine. Zen Faulkes, "City of Gold and Crystal Mine", 15 Mar 2005
