Rules Q&A
- Q: If Hida Genichi is on the attack it would seem he could bow Daidoji Gempachi before he could react. However, on the defense it looks like the attacking Crane would get the first reaction.
A: There is no player choice. Unit assignment always happens before Cavalry Maneuvers ends. Zen Faulkes, "Gempachi vs Genichi", 21 Feb 2008 - Q: I assign Daidoji Gempachi (3F - honorable) and Doji Random to attack my opponent. He assigns Diagotsu exp2. Gempachi uses his ability. What will be his force after the armies engage?
A: http://rules.l5r.com/Card_features#Gene ... bout_stats: "Setting stats to a value: Various effects will set a stat to some particular value, such as effects that switch or copy stats. To set a stat to a value, give an appropriate bonus or penalty.
"Example: A 0F/3C Personality has a +1C weapon attached. An effect switches the Personality's Force and Chi. The Personality's Force gains +4F, and Chi receives -4C. Because the weapon's bonus is already part of the stat, it is not reapplied, and the Personality is destroyed due to having 0C."
Traits apply before abilities. You do not give another penalty, because Gempachi already has a penalty that has been figured into the stat.
7. Zen Faulkes, "Daigotsu exp2 and Daidoji Gempachi", 26 Nov 2007 - Q: Hi, This came up today in a tournament and I was wondering if you could help:
I have Daidoji Gempachi along with a 0 force 3 personal honor artisan and Doji Domotai XP3. In addition, I have a Castle Walls in play with only one province remaining. My opponent has an 8 Force unit opposing my army.
If I use Gempachi's ability to boost the force of the Artisan, do any or all of these traits stack? If not, which ones would? Relevant text is below.
Daidoji Gempachi Reaction: After Cavalry Maneuvers: Raise Gempachi's Force, and the Force of another target Personality in his army, to the Force of a target card opposing them
Doji Domotai Your defending Crane Clan Personalities at Domotai's location have a Force bonus equal to their Personal Honor.
Castle Walls If you are the Defender and have only one Province, your Personalities and Followers have +2F.
Thanks for any help
A: Include all current bonuses in the raised stat. Do not reapply any bonuses that are already figured into the raised stat. Zen Faulkes, "Gempachi and Force bonuses", 5 Aug 2007 - Q: Daidoji Gempachi: Because he copies the force of a card if he copies the force of a personality with an item that increases force does he copy printed force or the modified value.
A: Current. Zen Faulkes, "Daidoji Gempachi and the definition of "card"", 5 Aug 2007
