Rules Q&A
- Q: I'm sure this question has been answered many times.... But if I use an ability on a follower, then it gets destroyed, but I bring it back into play right afterwards. Can I use its ability again? for example I use daidoji Gunso to lower the force of card A. Opponent destroys Daidoji Gunso I bring Daidoji Gunso back via Castle Barracks (can I now use Daidoji Gunso to lower the force of a card again?)
A: No, you cannot use the Follower's ability again that same turn. The card has not "forgotten" that its ability was used; in order for that to happen, it must be both out of play AND face-down (emphases mine):
http://rules.l5r.com/Effects#Tracking_rule: "“Memory” of the status of individual cards ends when the card enters a deck or a hand, or otherwise becomes both face-down and out of play (such as after a card in the deck or hand is shown). This includes dishonorable status, ongoing effects, and whether or not an ability has been used."
(Side note, about your topic title:
Only Personalities in discard piles are ever referred to as "Dead".
http://rules.l5r.com/Physically_marked_card_states#In_play_and_out_of_play: "No distinction between destroyed and discarded non-Personality cards is made while they are in the discard pile; all such cards have the state "discarded."") Brook Cunningham, "Dead followers and such", 22 Mar 2008 - Q: If I use the Daidoji Gunso Battle ability targeting the Iron Tetsubo, does its trait negate the force penalty?
So by extension is it possible to use two Daidoji Gunsos to destroy a single Iron Tetsubo by reducing its force to 0?
Daidoji Gunso: Battle: Give a target card opposing this one -2F. If the taret now has 0F, destroy it.
Iron Tetsubo: Negate all force penalties on this Personality.
The reason I ask is that the Tetsubo adds its force to that of its Personality, so I'm not sure if lowering its force is considered a force penalty to the Personality or not.
A: Giving a force penalty to a +x attachment will lower the personalities force, and is not considered a force penalty to the personality. Chris Fuchs, "Daidoji Gunso and Iron Tetsubo", 11 Sep 2007 - Q: (I)f I have two Daidoji Gunsos and I target a +4F item with both, will the item be destroyed?
A: http://rules.l5r.com/Card_types#Item_stats: "If the Force or Chi of an Item needs to be checked, its value is the value of its corresponding modifier if it is positive, or zero if the modifier is zero or negative." Zen Faulkes, "Daidoji Gunso", 14 Aug 2007 - Q: Are spells considered 0F when targeted by a Gunso?
A: http://rules.l5r.com/Card_features#Gene ... bout_stats: "A card type without a stat cannot receive bonuses or penalties to the stat unless the relevant bonus or penalty specifically grants it that stat. The stat is treated as zero at all times for purposes of anything that checks it." Zen Faulkes, "Daidoji Gunso", 14 Aug 2007
