- Q: Ah... I see. Cool. So this means I can also use Daidoji Rekai to move into a battle where there are no defenders and crush a Province. Her ranged attack won't happen, but her movement still will. A: No you can't use Rekai that way. There's one crucial difference between Rekai and Hataki: Rekai won't always have a target for her action. Hataki's movement targets the current battle, which will always exist if you're using a Battle action! Rekai, on the other hand, includes a mandatory ranged attack as part of her action. This ranged attack targets a Follower or a Personality with no Followers who'll be opposing her at her new location. As with any targeted action, if no targets can be picked, the action isn't legal. Rules Q&A
- Q: I'd really like to hear the _final_ answer whether or not Daidoji Rekai exp. can shoot into Ambush.
A: Can't. She can never be opposing a unit (Ambush text), so has no legal target for the Ranged Attack. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 16 August 2003", 16 Aug 2003 - Q: 2) Daidoji Rekai exp is somehow prevented from moving into a battle (ie she followed a new path, she sees an ambush). She tries to move in, targeting someone with her ranged attack before movement is announced (targeting comes first, right?). Does her ranged attack still resolve?
Yes.
How does Rekai shoot anyone from home? As she isn't in a battle, there are no units opposing her for her to shoot, correct? What would be the difference between the Ambush/Rekai situation above, and an Archer sitting at home shooting into a battle that I had presence at?
A: Well, Rekai exp. has an action that allows her to move into a battle and shoot someone with a Ranged 3. In the case of an Ambush, she's allowed to take the action, and when the action starts resolving, all parts of it that can happen will happen. In this specific case, she's not allowed to actually move into the battle, but that doesn't prevent her ranged attack. Strange, but true. Vaughn Derderian, "Rules for June 11th - Part Two!", 12 Jun 2003 - Q: 2) Daidoji Rekai exp is somehow prevented from moving into a battle (ie she followed a new path, she sees an ambush). She tries to move in, targeting someone with her ranged attack before movement is announced (targeting comes first, right?). Does her ranged attack still resolve?
A: Yes. Jeff Alexander, "post for 2 June 2003", 3 Jun 2003 - Q: If a player moves in Diadoji rekai into a battle with her action and the opposing player plays slaughter the Scout What Happens?
A: "If a card is destroyed after all costs (if any) of its effects have been paid but before all its effects resolve, all remaining effects still occur." [H&E rulesheet] The ranged attack still happens, since Rekai's action had all its costs paid. Jeff Alexander, "post for 27-28 May 2003", 29 May 2003 - Q: If I play Kolat Master on one of my opponents' Daidoji Rekai, and his Kolat Duplicate resolves, and he selects Rekai, would she go into my deck and be free, or his?
A: His, since he's Rekai's owner. Jeff Alexander, "post for 26 November 2001", 27 Nov 2001
